But Aregawi was just jogging for 1300, i.e. following and trying to stay out of trouble. She then took the lead but didn't become really serious until 100 to go. She still ran 28.0 for the last 200 and won by one and a half second.
Her only aim was to secure the win (and thereby the overall DL win for the year) in the safest and easiest way available. There was no one around capable of putting up any kind of challenge even in that scenario.
If she didn't need more than 100 metres of serious running to win easily, why would she have bothered to waste more energy?
Of course Aregawi is not unbeatable -no one is - but when fit (and avoiding tactical errors) she currently is very close.
