Don't know....and don't know if she'll choose to continue!
She WAS about 200 pts ahead after yesterday.
So she could still be ahead.....unless her pt total for that 4.63 isn't enough to cover any 200 pt gain by the girl in 2nd.

BTW, how are you watching?

She's hanging on to a bronze medal by a narrow 17-points.

What a mess this medley relay is!!!..It is beyond me why they would choose this instead of a typical 4x4 and 4x1 relays. Seeing as though only 2 athletes are allowed to enter in each event i understand why they may do it

This is EXACTLY what these champs should be about. It will ne a great learning experience for her and she'll come bak stronger

hinriksdottir's time has been corrected 2:02.43 so her splits were 61s and 61. That is pretty even pace!

Morgan Lake's first javelin throw a foul - but it was less than 30m and she just looks an emotional mess.

2nd one wasn't much better but at least it was legal

How on earth do you throw 39m with 4 strides and that technique ? :?

That was unfortunate as he was the favorite to win. However, his teammate came through for the Gold and showed great sportsmanship. Well Done. :D

Alexa Ephraimson gives it her best but only good enough for third. So the streak continues. No American has ever won the 1500 at this competition. Jordan Hasay's second place finish is stil the highest.

Alexa Efraimson finished only 3rd, but she ran VERY close to her PR, running 4:16.07.
AND.....she finished just ahead of Bobby Clay, who had been ballyhooed on this forum by a few people earlier this year!!
The other American, Anna Maxwell, got a PR too...running 4:23.75.
Both are returning to HS in the fall!!

Uh, no. She's the sister of Dominique, a Univ. of Houston runner/jumper from Louisiana.

Mikiah is Baton Rouge born and bred and the daughter of Leroy and Pennie, but wouldn't Valerie's kids' last name be Hooks, not Brisco?

Saw that Morgan Lake opted out of running the 800.
I'm sorry she had such a bad 2nd day, but not finishing (unless she was physically injured) was wrong.
I'm sure she was devastated by her poor LJ and JT, but look at American Alexa Harmon-Thomas, who was behind Lake after the first day.
She threw the jav just 21.58....and was behind Lake by 286 points after that event.
Yet Harmon-Thomas finished with 5200 points, a PR!!!

Hope Lake learns to deal better with a bad event or two....or maybe she needs to give up the Hept!!
I DO feel bad for her, however!!
Wish her well!!

Interesting fact re these Championships:
No Jamaican girls made the 100 or 200 finals and no US men made the 100 or 200 finals.

Do I think this means any great decline in the fates of the US/JAM sprint dominance? No. Just naming out a fact. I know where JA is concerned most of our top Youth Girls in the sprints had a combination or injury concerns and school focus.

I believe the same can be said about the US boys, especially where injuries are concerned.

JA is currently ranked 1st on the medal table based off of quality of medals with 4 Gold:

Rank Country Gold Silver Bronze total
1 Jamaica JAMAICA 4 0 2 6
2 Australia AUSTRALIA 3 0 1 4
3 Pr Of China PR OF CHINA 2 5 3 10
4 Russia RUSSIA 2 5 0 7
5 Germany GERMANY 2 3 3 8
6 Ethiopia ETHIOPIA 2 2 1 5
7 Kenya KENYA 2 1 2 5
8 United States UNITED STATES 1 5 6 12
9 Cuba CUBA 1 1 1 3
9 Great Britain & N.I. GREAT BRITAIN & N.I. 1 1 1 3

I seriously hope Jaleel doesn't decide to pursue the football and leave out the athletics. At the moment he is a gifted athlete in both and i can see him being success at the hurdle. If my memory serves me right he is also a very good 200m runner .

110mH - 13.13 (-1.1w)
200m - Don't remember his 200m PB but he is ranked one of the best in JA in his age group (which is saying something)
400m - 46.95 PB

Exciting ? If the halfway split of the winner is correct as reported on the IAAF page - 46.63 - I would say it must have been one of the most entertaining races ever :) Surely that must be a mistake ?

I remember it being 48 something, so maybe it was 48.63. Still a pretty crazy way to win your race. I imagine he can go 2-3 seconds faster by by not being so Montanoesque.

He still had enough gusto to hold on in the last 100m when the GB athlete and the russian came at the end. But I suspect as he get older his tatics will change

Heard the Brit announcer discussing Bobby Clay's race. Not exactly a tactical textbook when you already are disadvantaged by size. On that note Alexa looked as if she ran a very good race. Would have been interesting to see the Ethiopians pressed a little. They seem to have only run as hard as they needed to to win the race.

As I mentioned a few minutes ago, in the Portland Roughriders thread, aaronk is such a hypocrite. You can guarantee if it had been an incident involving one of "his favoured girls" he would be shouting from the rooftops, his defence of "his girl" quitting.

I feel very sorry for Morgan. Clearly she was devastated by her LJ disaster. From her body language and the look on her face during the javelin it was no surprise she was DNS in the 800m.

At the end of day 1, the only athlete that could have beaten Morgan, was Morgan. And, sadly, so it transpired. And what probably makes it even more difficult to stomach is that she also leaves Donetsk as easily the best high jumper having jumped 2 cm higher than the gold medal winner of the individual HJ.

Common sense !!

What ever the morality of it, it does no good to anyone to drop out because things aren't going your way

I have no idea of her reasons so can't comment but if she wasn't injured it was the wrong decision in my opinion. If she's fallen over in the hurdles then fair enough but to not do the last event, not so much.
