Well it really doesn't matter if the officials messed up her time because she will go so much faster in the finals. Her coach told her to really hold back in the heats and semi- finals in order to be relatively fresh for the final blast. Her coach is really concerned about the EJC next week where she is going to be seriously challenged by the favorite Jessica Judd. Hinriksdottir proved today that she is not just a front runner. She ran a tactical race today with a nice kick the last 220 meters. Her time really was 2:02.44 but who cares she won anyways!

Is it possible that Aníta had to run again after coach Joakimsson's appeal ?
This would explain that 2:04.96, I really don't know...

Absolutely not!!
Run an EXTRA "semi" race.....for one person??
That would be something to behold!!

Besides seeing the time as she crossed the line, I know it was 2:02 because I was watching Raevyn Rogers also.
Wanted to see if she'd PR.
So as Hinriksdottir crossed the line in 2:02, I counted the seconds back to Rogers.......3.......4.......5......!!
(Rogers ran 2:05.33, I believe, in the same semi......not a PR!)

Just look at the photofinish here above and you see that 2:04.96 is the time of the Ethopian girl that was also DQ'ed. Anita's coach imediately filed a protest(it has to arrive within 30 minutes after the race) and asked for video proof of Anita stepping out of her lane and after watching the rerun of the race they could not point out where she stepped on(or outside) her line so the head judge reinstated here. I heard no protest arrived from the Ethiopians within 30 minutest from the race so it is a pity they did not challenge the judgement. The poor girl with the second fastest time in the semis has to live with it.

Ukrainian officials are clearly truly blind. First, they see something that didn't happen - Hinriksdottir stepping on or over the line. Second, they can't see something that actually happened - the photo finish evidence showing 2:02.44 for Hinriksdottir.
It does seem incomprehensible that the IAAF result sheet remains unchanged for time. Anyway, let's hope she gets under 2:00.00 in the final.

After last year's fiasco in London where they first dqed Schwarzkopf in the hep even though another athlete stepped over the line they should have adjusted the rules. If someone supposedly did something wrong during a race, first look at the videos and only disqualify if you have actual video proof. There is no reason to rush a disqualification, so take your time.

I haven't seen the video evidence. But has anyone actually seen a video that shows Kokeb Tesfaye stepping on or over the line - or has she had a double dose of bureaucratic incompetence (1) the Ukranian judges for getting it wrong, and then (2) the Ethiopian management for not appealing.

Thank you ! That's the example I wanted to take. He had a problem with his start during the semifinals - same round in the case of Hinriksdóttir, his coach filed a protest and he ran again. Kishoyian was qualified and eventually finished 6th of the final...

Her Hept PR is 5725 from this year.
Don't know what her 2nd day is like, but she seems to have at least an outside shot at 6000!!

If she can match her PRs in the remaining events it would appear that she is headed for a massive PR increase to 6100+

Thanks for the "photo" finish aaron. Notice how perfect her split was? 1:01.30 on thursday, then 1:01.32 on friday. That's consistency in the semis

Not bad! But how about the Norwegian winner of the event, Karsten Warholm? Still 17, won 4 events. This was his second octathlon ever! He has never done any other multievent comp. He has barely trained throwing events. I like the 10.85- 2.02 and 7.30 (pb is 7.52, about 24-8).

The long jump was a disaster for Morgan Lake. :( An aborted 4.63m followed by two fouls. The LJ is normally one of her strengths but she's really been struggling with it this year and the same thing happened at the English Schools last week when she only jumped 4.35m.

Don't know....and don't know if she'll choose to continue!
She WAS about 200 pts ahead after yesterday.
So she could still be ahead.....unless her pt total for that 4.63 isn't enough to cover any 200 pt gain by the girl in 2nd.

BTW, how are you watching?

She's hanging on to a bronze medal by a narrow 17-points.

What a mess this medley relay is!!!..It is beyond me why they would choose this instead of a typical 4x4 and 4x1 relays. Seeing as though only 2 athletes are allowed to enter in each event i understand why they may do it

hinriksdottir's time has been corrected 2:02.43 so her splits were 61s and 61. That is pretty even pace!

Morgan Lake's first javelin throw a foul - but it was less than 30m and she just looks an emotional mess.

That was unfortunate as he was the favorite to win. However, his teammate came through for the Gold and showed great sportsmanship. Well Done. :D

Alexa Ephraimson gives it her best but only good enough for third. So the streak continues. No American has ever won the 1500 at this competition. Jordan Hasay's second place finish is stil the highest.

Alexa Efraimson finished only 3rd, but she ran VERY close to her PR, running 4:16.07.
AND.....she finished just ahead of Bobby Clay, who had been ballyhooed on this forum by a few people earlier this year!!
The other American, Anna Maxwell, got a PR too...running 4:23.75.
Both are returning to HS in the fall!!
