Has Shelly Ann Fraser ever run a 200 in an outside lane?

I dont remembe ever seeing it. She seems to always be in lane 3 or lane 4(if the track is has 9 lanes) and it doesnt seem to be by chance. I would think she could run much better in lane 7 or 8 or 9. She doesnt need to see the field because she is the fastest in the world anyway. Carmelita Jeter caught on fast that lane 8 is the place to be and has dropped alot of good times from there. I say Shelly has a good shot at sub 22 in a very outer lane what do you think?

Big name athletes often get to choose their lane assignments. Shelly obviously prefers the inside lanes so that she can watch her competition ahead.

At championships the lanes are randomly drawn in a stratified manner -- the semi winners in the core lanes, then the next two and the last two. 3/4/5/6 might be the core lanes, although they really ought to do 4/5/6/7 (sometimes Lane 1 is the second lane on the track and Lane 8 the ninth).

I think Michael Johnson used to want (and get) Lane 3; gh?

I feel as if lane 9/8 would always be the most efficient lane to run from.

But you run blind, and athletes do not like that.

Correct, that was his favorite lane. Bolt is Lane 6.

I actually thought SAFP would've been better off in 5, or 6 in the London Olympic final (she was in 4, Felix was in 7). May have been a much tighter race and possibly a sub 22.00 run.

Veronica has won championships from both the inside and the outside lanes.

For people with good 100 meter speed lane 8/9 would prob be the most efficient since they have natural speed and dont need the field as their guide actually the field often uses them. Carmelita broke her previous pr of 22.20 twice in 2012 because she ran in LANE 8/9. The gentler curve for someone with a good start outweighs the ability to see the field imo plus there is the added benefit of pulling the field to a faster time.

For the women, fast, but not as fast as the men, and with the wider turns (especially if they use 2-9), the curve is not quite as big an issue.

Also, SAFP, despite being the tip started, seems to be developing a 200 style that probably gets her out quickly but saves a little bit for the transition to the straight which she seems to be getting right, at least relative to this find of field.

According to the commies, in Doha she was initially given lane four, and she requested lane three instead....
