Montsho wins, 49.88 WL
Felix second in 50.19
Chrissy O third in 50.53 SB

I thought Felix went out a little too hard in the first 200.

Agreed. Montsho looks to be in devastating form but Chrissy O as always gets better close to championships. They are so the opposite, Montsho is miss consistency and Chrissie O is Miss peak at the right time.

What will be interesting is if Ohuruogu's new season plan will accomplish the same effect, but I thought she went out a bit slow just now, however she has plenty of time to get it right and the season is almost so much more exciting for having he racing from early on.

49.88 0.209 MONTSHO Amantle BOT WL
50.19 0.178 FELIX Allyson USA
50.53 0.176 OHURUOGU Christine GBR SB
50.58 0.223 MCCORORY Francena USA SB
51.32 0.195 HASTINGS Natasha USA
52.23 0.227 WILLIAMS Shericka JAM
52.81 0.194 GAYOT Marie FRA
57.51 0.180 HYACINTHE Kimberly CAN

I did not expect Felix to break 50, so her performance was pretty good, as was Chrissy's (although she did similar last race but placed her effort better in that race apparently -- she should use these races to try different strategies). Williams was a bit of a surprise, anyone know what happened (it could just be tailing off hard at the end with fatigue and being out of the running, so no big deal).

I was expecting her too. Her indoor form and relay runs seemed to indicating she would be really competing.

Wowsa!!!!!!! Until we hear from Krivoshapka or see Sanya Richards Ross Montsho is the clear favorite with Ohorugu being the big sleeper.

Kudos to Felix as well on a great run. This proves how solid she is at 400. She hasnt run an open 400 in over 2 years and just drops a low 50 while other strugglers/stragglers who run 400 damn near everyday are fighting to even break 52.

No Felix is not going to run the 400 in Moscow she is going after the 100/200 double again. Hopefully she will run another 1 or 2 400's on the circuit. She will def be running the 2nd leg of the 4 by 4 in Moscow, that I can bet on.

I believe this was Felix's first loss in Doha. Krivoshapka has not yet competed outdoors this season.

Unfortunately Shericka has been running poorly for sometime now. I am not sure what her training program is but since 2012 she has been running alot of 100 and 200 early in the season and only broke 51 seconds after the olympics. It looks like she is unfortunately heading down that route again. I think Allyson could probably run 52 low even after taking a long vacation from training I just dont get what is going on with her.

Strange because she won medals in 2009 and 2010 outside of Russia and ran a sub-50 at the Olympics last year before running much poorer in the final. I was always impressed that she ran 2010 in pain as she suffered an accident but last year her rounds in London were insane. As I said Russians either can't handle the rounds or are insanely stupid. However I'd love Krivoshapka to do something this year, however the women's 400m looks loaded, there is real massive depth at the moment.

If I were Montsho or Felix, i'd keep my eye on McCorory.
She's been threatening to go sub-50 in an open race for years!
One of these days, she'll start matching (or surpassing!) her 49 second relay legs!

McCorory is a victim of someone letting her run with such poor technique as a junior and now she's got some poor habits that are going to take some work to get rid of. She's got the strength and speed which is similar to Montsho and TBO but without efficient form which costs her.

U r correct she had that form since I been watchin her run since 9th grade but she always won and no one corrected it...she started only running the 100-200-300(indoors) and a leg on her HS 4x4 it wasn't until her senior yr of hs that she focused running 400s 500s and that's when u saw how poor her form was but again she won hs and college....I guess she is still with pierce from Hampton

Maybe not quite so strange (although perhaps most people do get their best marks in their home country). Based on tilastopaja data, here's her 10 best 400s (* = at home)

49.16* 1 Cheboksary 5 Jul 2012
49.29* 1s1 Cheboksary 23 Jul 2009
49.43 * 1 Krasnodar 8 Jun 2012
49.67 2s2 Berlin 16 Aug 2009
49.71 * 1 Cheboksary 24 Jul 2009
49.71 3 Berlin 18 Aug 2009
49.81 1s3 London 4 Aug 2012
49.92 * 2 Cheboksary 22 Jul 2011
49.94 1 Rovereto 4 Sep 2012
50.05 * 1s1 Cheboksary 4 Jul 2012

And the Berlin and London tracks were fast and it should have been her peak effort.

That supports eldanielfire's point about handling rounds; four semi-final marks in the top 10, and in only one case did she improve her time in the final. (In addition, she ran 50.55 in the Daegu semi and 50.66 in the final.)

She ran her London sub-50 in the semi final but blew it in the final. Peaked a or two race too early (She ran insanely fast in the first round before easing up with 50m to go being around 40m ahead of the whole field in what would have been a clear sub-50 run otherwise) or blew up in the final.

She said later that she only ran the 400 in Doha because Bobby Kersee "made her." This is definitely a 1/2 year for her.
