Didn't expect Kipyegon to dip under 3:57

That's an age 19 record for Kipyegon!!
And G Anderson gets the "A" standard!!
3rd American to have it....after Simpson and Martinez.

04:12.6 11 JEPKOSGEI Janeth KEN

Notable for what she did not do here, although she might have burned her matches too fast and faded badly when it did not matter too much any more.

It's a Kenyan senior record and African junior record for Kipyegon. Fastest ever non-Chinese junior performance in history.

According to my records, it was the overall age 19 record.
I had a 3:59 as the previous best.
The Chinese ran faster at ages 17 and 18, but the fastest I knew of for age 19 was the 3:59.
So until I learn of who's faster at 19, Kipyegon got it!!

Oh, and Aregawi gets the age 22 record....and the Swedish record, breaking the old Swedish mark of the great Gabriela Szabo!!

Well Gabriella Szabo was indeed great – but Romanian... :)
The Swedish record was 4.05,49, held by Malin Ewerlöf, 2nd in 1998 EC in the 800m.

You are correct!
I meant to say Aregawi broke the age 22 record.....which was Szabo's 3:56.97.
Thanks for the correction!

Breaks Jackline Maranga's 14-year-old Kenyan senior NR (3.57,41/3rd Monaco (3.56,97 Szabo)).
