DL Doha entry lists

Postby norunner » Mon May 06, 2013 10:46 am

Entry lists for friday are online:
http://www.diamondleague-doha.com/Live- ... Overview1/
And before the usual US vs. Jamaica fun starts i got a question: How does a 17 year old girl from Kenya (CHEPNGETICH Roseline) with no PB or SB get into a 3000mH race at a diamond league meeting?

What a w100H race they've assembled, and w400 looks great as well.

M.I.A.'s.......

Lavillenie
Rupp
Lagat
Farah
Pearson
Bolt
Blake
Gay
SRR
Coburn
Simpson
Jager
and on and on!!

Still......a GREAT field!!

As to the young Kenyan/Ethiopian girls with no.....or slow.....PR's....
they should bring in Cain and Cranny to teach them a lesson or two!! :P

If folks are getting this frenzied about late April and early May meets, their heads are simply going to explode come June/July/August. Best to not be standing too close.

Maybe she has run 8:45 for 3000m/14:50 for 5000m/or comes as a package deal with someone [she actually has a 16:05 last year in Nairobi (1660m)-- altitude-slowed for a 16-year old]

The other runner with a 10:24h listed also has this listed, which would be the Youth Games in a warm Singapore and was likely a medal-winning effort in that heat and humidity and she has a 16:08 from the same race as RC:

2000mSC 6:29.97 Singapore (SIN) 23.08.2010

Finally, while it is a DL meet, runners from this hemisphere are unlikely to go so far right now and not too many are really competitive yet (collegians are ahead of the game timing-wise and they are not going, of course). There are six with SBs better than 9:15, so it could go way fast pretty early.

This is a really good lineup for the first DL of the year.

Season's Bests on the website are all cocked up of course.

I think they used 2012 SBs if 2013 marks weren't available... which would be good if they were marked as such

I devoted several minutes looking for this season's 2.37m from Grabarz before realising the lists were a balls up.

I think that they are using 2012 marks for SBs (small sample gives this result).

Actually i find the may/june meetings more exciting, because thats when we get most of the surprises. By August you pretty much know who is new and/or hot, but the early season is when the new stars show up.

Amen, Bro (or Sis!!)!

Also, Doha has DL status.
To me, a DL is a DL, no matter if it's early May or late August!
And the world's athletes should treat it as such.
Otherwise, why give it DL status??

Both men's and women's races have pacers that are called "rabbits".
I guess...to call a pacer for a women's race...a BUNNY......would be sexist, eh??

I would be surprised if they use a 17-year-old with little racing experience for the rabbit in a tricky event like the Steeple; I thought of the same possibility but decided it not too be too likely.

To me 'Missing In Action' would suggest that they were supposed to be there or that it was a surprise that they weren't. It would make sense in mid August, but in May I'm surprised anyone of note has turned up. :P

I'm actually really excited about this. Much better season opener than usual. Most years people can rack up points at the beginning of the season in easy races but doesn't look that way in Doha.

No womens 100. Fraser in the 200m. Allyson in the womens 400m.

See front page for provisional start list.

And to clear up that ambiguous answer, no, there is no mens 200m nor a mens 400m. Both of those events are scheduled at the next Diamond League meeting (in Shanghai on May 18)

The DL events are designed to be spread across the various meets. While some meets will keep strongly desired events to the extent that they can (they can offer them as non-DL if they wish), these are not fixed event schedules and, in general, I would expect them to not be the same year-to-year.

Just checked the time in Qatar.
It's 10 hours later than here in WA state.
(Or 7 hours later on the East Coast.)

The first event starts at 5:25 p.m. Arabian Time.
Thus, it will be 7:25 a.m. here in Bellingham.

Will there be a livestream of the meet??
A FREE livestream??

would be stranger if they did; the DL, as noted earlier, is designed to rotate events, and NO meet that had the women's 100 last year has it this year. There has been a 100% changeover.

Go to our link here and you can see what few events are repeats across the board:

Except for the hammer throw, which the DL completely ignores year after year.

The problem I have with TV coverage is the scant attention they pay to the throws....

I would really like to watch Keshorn Walcott in the men's javelin, for example, but I will probably only see a 30-second recap of the top three.

THIS. I loved it at London 2012 on the BBC Red Button you could select a commentary-less feed showing the entirety of a field event competition from start to finish. Was great to have that on the laptop, while sitting in front of the TV with the main broadcast+pundits on.

Less than 5 hours to go!!

Looking at the current World Leaders lists, and the GREAT athletes in just about every event, I'd predict we're going to see a wholesale revision of those WL lists by the end of the meet!!

Most looking forward to:

Men
How fast for Rudisha?
And will he win?
Will we get 1 or 2 under 3:30 and 7:30 in the 1500 and 3000?

Women
Will it be Montsho...or Felix?
Will they (or one of them) go sub-50?
Will Lolo win?
(This is maybe the BEST field for the women!!)
Was Chelsea Hayes's 23+ a one-off?
Or will she do it again.....today??
Arigawi or G Dibaba?
Sub-4:00??

Im very curious to see Choronda Williams this year. Since she has a bye to the WC, and can now take a more leveled approach to training instead of trying to be at her best by June.

I will be a bit surprised if the overall track results are as good as last year;
AF in 10.92
Gatlin in 9.87
Dix in 20.02
Merritt in 44.19
Jelimo in 1.56.94 and Magisu 1.57.9
Rudisha in 1.43.10
Kiplagat in 3.29.63!!
Mischenko in 4.3.00
Choge in 7.30.42
Kipchoge in 12.51.21 Chepkok in 12.51.45
FosterHylton in 12.60
Van Zyl in 48.11
Melaine W in 54.62
Cheywa in 9.16.44

I reckon that the Doha last year was exceptional and this year 70 % times on the track will not be as good.

I shall be in the gym after work, pumping hard, so if a nice friendly person wants to upload the best races on Youtube later on, that would be just lovely :P

In particular, the women's 400m please, as I would like to think that my home girl Ohuruogu can threaten Felix and Montsho for the win
