Both Veronica and Allyson arrrived in Kingston this afternoon in preparation of their clash over 100m at the meet on Saturday.

This is the first time Felix is back in Jamaica running since she came fifth in the 200m at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston.

This will be Felix's individual race season opener for 2013.

I'm looking forward to seeing the startlist itself for this race. want to know if Sherone is running in this race or the 200. I'm interested in seeing what shape she is in.

Didnt' you see Sherone on the first leg of the 4 x 100m at Penn Relays? She looks to be great shape.(ala 2006). I expect fireworks from her come trials in June.

"Six athletes led by Jamaica's Commonwealth and Pan-American Games 100m champion Lerone Clarke and 2008 Olympic Games 100m silver medallist Richard Thompson have withdrawn from the Jamaica International Invitational set for tomorrow evening at the National Stadium. An e-mail from Athletes Liaison Donald Quarrie yesterday advised that six athletes, including Jamaican male sprinter hurdler Richard Philips, American shot putter Cory Martin, American female sprint hurdler Gennie Crawford and quarter-miler Shereefa Lloyd had all withdrawn from the meet for various reasons."

Patton and Gay will be big duel.
Patton is in very great shape 9.75 +4.3 and 10.09 -2.0 means around 9.90 or little bit less with good legal wind.
Gay almost never run bad, so he will be very fast sure too.
And i must in Kemar for to be very near of them.

Ryan Bailey and Nesta Carter perhaps gets sub10.
It will be very good races if nobody more is out finally

We didn't get an actual split for her run, she just looked great compared to everyone else but everyone else could be running 11.2/3. I am more concerned with the actual time she will run this meet and not per se if she wins.

This track is very fast. With the competition the winner will be in the 9.8's for sure. I hope Kemar Bailey upset Gay. This will be the talk of the meet. Lets Go!!!

Apparently Queen Harrison is replacing Ginnie Crawford, who dropped out of the meet (injury).
With her recent 12.71, a great choice!!

??? What does this mean. I know that when a 5000m runner has not been doing any speed work they have not been working on their finishing kick and probably have not been doing repeat fast 400s. But the 100 (or 100/200) runners are certainly not doing a lot of miles, everything they are doing is speed work aside from lifting. So, for months she has been swimming or what?

Interesting matchup for sure, but I think a Patton upset is more likely given Patton's current form, but we'll see. I'll put my money on TG.... We could see a crazy time this weekend!

I think expectations for Gay are a bit too high. I think he might normally be doing the 400 here but is a fill-in for Bolt in the 100 slot instead. Patton, on the other hand, has been racing a lot; this is at least his fourth major outing. [Kemar I have not been tracking but will have my radar slowly picking him up more and more.]

Personally, Tyson Gay has often exceeded my expectations, so my money's on him. But I'm really excited to see what Patton at 35yrs of age can do with some solid competition in TG and Kemar.

Many track experts have often rubbished the idea of a “fast track” including Ato Boldon. Its fast people folks.

Jeter ran 10.81 last year at the meet. Bolt ran 9.82 last year as well. Blake ran 9.80 at the meet in 2011. All these are “fast” people.

While it may not be the track proper, there's no end of empirical evidence that certain sites are faster than others in the 100. With high temperature/humidity usually being very good boosters.

Huh? Am i living on another planet because i remember clearly during a interview with Ato Boldon in Beijing (08 olympics) when he was on the track and said it was very very fast. He also said that about London (12 olympics)too, so Ato Boldon cannot be one of the experts you are talking about.

Utter nonsense. The rigidity of the track surface makes it "fast" or "slow". The "fast" people don't run as fast on a slow track.

Most of the tracks that run just secondary races are 'slow' by comparison to the tracks like London, Atlanta, etc. This came up a bit a couple of years ago when Gatlin was just coming back and he had only 'ok' times on such tracks. When he got on the premier venues his times dropped another 0.10 or so.

What is the current status of Merlene Ottey in Jamaica....meaning her legacy, and how she is viewed by Jamaicans now?

Are there buildings, high schools (or tracks), or streets named after her?
Is she looked up to by women and girls in Jamaica the same way that Usain Bolt is??

Again, just curious,
Ottey is one of my all time favorite athletes.......and still competing at age 53!!
(Well, she'll BE 53 on May 10th!!)

I hope they regard her in the same way they regard all other drug cheats.

Don't get things twisted. Ottey was cleared.

She wasn't cleared, she got off on a technicality of procedure. It doesn't help a coach was busted last year with emails being sent to Ottey's coach on how to beat drug tests. She's Marion Jones like in always having something going on there.

I notice with a great deal of contempt and disgust the hypocrisy of GH the moderator. He is always quick to ban people or give a stern warning whenever remarks are made about questionable American athletes and drugs but I guess he has a double standard if its Jamaican athlete whose reputation and legacy is been attacked. Talking about the facts of a case are not so much grounds for being banned. Casting unverified suspicion is frowned on. Saying the someone did not get a ban because of a technicality is a matter involving a fact. Maybe the 'fact' is inaccurate (my vague recollection is that it is accurate, but I am not sure and I am not making a claim to it), which is a fact to be addressed (maybe the person that thinks that is not correct is wrong). gh's ire can be raised by a succession of idiocy etc., but I think that you will find him rather consistent in what is unacceptable. [I am having some difficulty in understanding exactly what the prior two posters think is the problem.]

Wallace Spearmon in an interview at the Penn Relays with Television Jamaica said that Jamaica is his second home and he loves competing there. He gets lots of love from his Jamaican fans.

He said he is looking forward to a good race.

Dawn Harper, Debbie Ferguson and Solonda Solomon, arrived in Kingston today.

Well, she wasn't banned for anything and if the IAAF/WADA felt this new information somehow affected Ottey, there would have been an investigation by them on this information.

Lets get back to the Jamaica Invitational discussion.

She was banned, but the ban was overturned on a technicality, so step a little lightly on this topic in the future rather than indicate that anyone that cites the material is guilty of throwing unverified aspersions on the athlete should be banned from the board.

Just go read this; avoiding a positive reading from both the A and B samples only because
"the retesting was not completed in the allotted time"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottey [wikipedia is not perfect, but this is not the type of thing that there is typically a problem with.

Lets get back to the Jamaica Invitational discussion.

But now, it is time to return to our regularly scheduled focus on Jamaican sprinting or, in this case, sprinting in Jamaica. I am sure that we all agree with that.
