Uh, that's ~ 9 mph, not even a real wind in Texas, for example. [I know you didn't mean that literally, but let's face it, the Metric System has little meaning to most, even in Field Events, where it's not that complicated: Multiply by 3 and add 10%, than fudge it down a coupla feet for Throws (3.28 Conversion Factor).

You meant has little meaning in a backwards, conservative country still talking about 6 feet 7 inches and 224 feet 10 inches, for example, which the entire world, and especially the world of athletics, has rejected for the metric system. It is not too difficult but the USA wants to make a weird point that "we can still stick with the imperial system; it makes us feel different".

The Jamaicans in the race might have something to say about him being the favorite.

I am predicting a win by Kemar Bailey Cole

It has been 7 years since she has had that form. I don't expect it to come back. She has had numerous injuries/surgeries over the years. I don't expect to get that form back.

jamboy im great fan of Kemar Bailey, but im realistic, in this moment Patton is in best shape.
Only if Patton have some injury in my opinion could to win Kemar.

Its really hard to say that. I think in 2012 she showed a glimmer of what may still be there. 11.01,22.37,51.42. You know the phrase " what a difference a year makes"? She may have a revival.

Prior to 2012 I would never have thought SRR would run a 22.09 into a headwind and i thought Allyson Felix 21.81 from 2007 in Osaka would probably not be topped by her again. You just never know.

Note: I have my eye on Kerron Stewart she ran a 51.83 and in 2008 she ran a 52.09 and that was prob her best year(2009 was great too).

Kerron also ran an early season 11.2 recently. She is rounding into shape nicely.

Tyson Gay has been added to the 100m at the Jamaica Invitational. Should be a great matchup.

He loves Jamaica and he has run there several times at both the 200m and the 400m.

From the USA Today article: I'm told it is only a Grade 1 strain so hopefully I will be OK soon," he said.

The sprinter said he felt tightness in the hamstring during training last weekend and decided with coach Glen Mills not to take any risks this early in the season.

Sure hopes this puts to rest the offbase conflation (w/ Yohan Blake) of a claimed "Strain" with an actual Pulled Muscle, or even the generic "tear". Not that the (specious?) introduction of objective terminology (Grade 1) into a still somewhat subjective matter solves anything.

But "tightness", esp. in Training, is a long "stretch" to "serious injury", as one Poster wanted to define as anything affecting Meet appearance(s).

Tyson is added because no blake or bolt is there. So there is no ducking to do. Same old, same old. Not big clashes until worlds. Watch and see. Bolt, Blake and Tyson will not clash until worlds. Don't know why the build up, we all know how the story is going to end every time.

Jamboy we shall see. Every year there is a breakout star, so we will see. Someone said a 9.98 for Bailey Cole? U've got to be kidding me. His stride pattern and frequency has gotten way better this year. I am looking for a big improvement.

Tyson rarely races over 100m this early in the season. He's usually coming off his strenghwork of his early 400s and transitioning through his speedwork to 200s and 100s. As a matter of fact, I believe this is the earliest he'll have raced over 100m since 2008 when he did 10.02 (-0.2) in CA on 18 May. He usually runs 200m at this meet. 20.00 (1.2) in 08 19.97 (-0.5) in 07 20.12 (1.6) in 06, with a 45.05 400 from 2010.

That being said, 9.90 sounds about right.

Didn't he basically give up on the 200m because of his injuries? I think he only did one 200 last year and none in 2011.

I think they should be sanctioned by the JAAA and made to apologize publicly in their underwear for this deception.

Bolt was never scheduled for the 100m(only the 200m). Blake pulled out(100M about two weeks ago. Only after these two markee athletes pulled out, the organizers decided they needed another headliner for the meet and thus approached Tyson.

Tyson has run in Jamaica several times over the years carefully avoiding markee matchups with Bolt, Blake and Asafa :D

'A release from Bolt's agent Ricky Simms yesterday said the two-time Olympic double sprint champion was withdrawn from the meet out of an abundance of caution "due to a slight hamstring strain". Simms said, "The 26-year-old felt tightness in training over the weekend and in consultation with his coach Glen Mills decided not to risk anything at this early stage of the season". Bolt, who won the 100m at last year's renewal in a then world-leading 9.82 seconds, was quoted to have said: "I am disappointed to miss the Kingston meet as I love running in front of my home crowd in Jamaica. I'm told it is only a Grade One strain so hopefully I will be OK soon."'

Are there buildings, high schools (or tracks), or streets named after her?
Is she looked up to by women and girls in Jamaica the same way that Usain Bolt is??

Again, just curious,
Ottey is one of my all time favorite athletes.......and still competing at age 53!!
(Well, she'll BE 53 on May 10th!!)

I hope they regard her in the same way they regard all other drug cheats.

Don't get things twisted. Ottey was cleared.

She wasn't cleared, she got off on a technicality of procedure. It doesn't help a coach was busted last year with emails being sent to Ottey's coach on how to beat drug tests. She's Marion Jones like in always having something going on there.
