Sea Ray: Buck Jones doing PA

Postby BillVol » Fri Apr 12, 2013 1:46 pm

Haven't been to Sea Ray in a few years but it seemed like Dr. Buck Jones had quit announcing for a while. Well, he is back. He used to make the meets sound so good back in the day. And he still sounds good.

You can hear him and see the meet at this link:

Buck announced the Florida Relays last week, and did a great job, despite not having list of members of relay spuds.

Wow, I did not know that. They sure knew where to find a good announcer. He is (or used to be) a professor at Tennessee. He's from Wisconsin originally.

His intros were classic and moving back in the '80s and '90s. Guessing he was there in the '70s, too. He would add commentary to certain races, too, that served to educate a lot of us.

Looks like the video of Sea Ray crapped out toward the end. Wouldn't you know it. So we missed the distance races. A shame. But Sea Ray/Dogwood is not what it used to be.

Watching the video now. Buck was doing PA earlier, but there is someone else doing it now. Nothing like Buck, though.

I have been watching the last bit but get no sound at all. I did get sound on the ad that preceded the video feed one of the times, but lost it in a second try. IE also has not played the video at all and eventually indicated that content cannot be loaded.

I've been using Chrome as my browser so I don't know about IE. Maybe try another browser.

Found out that this is Buck's 31st Sea Ray Relays.

The other guy doing PA is named Kent Johnson. I tweeted a question to @Vol_Track asking if Kent is a former Vol, and was told, "He is not." No further info from @Vol_Track. I have no idea what his qualifications are to do PA and @Vol_Track wasn't saying. He's not Buck, that's for sure.
