Michigan is no longer on the start list of the DMR. Looks like we're headed for a slow race with a sprint finish.

Dartmouth is not listed amongst the competing schools according to the PR website.

That 4 X 800 USA squad looks unbeatable....albeit not knowing what kind of team Russia will bring in.
One thing's for sure: That "WR" is GONE!!
If all those sub-2:00 women can't run better than an average 2:04.48, I'd be shocked!!
But who should run lead-off??
I'd go with Montano.
She's the most aggressive runner in the pack.....always willing to take it out from the gun.
Get a 1:57 or 158 out of her, and the others might get inspired to try for sub-2:00's also, thus guaranteeing a sub-8:00 time.

As for the DMR, where's the USA 400 guy?
They're all milers/800 types. Will Sowinski or Symmonds serve as the "400" person?
Why can't Wariner or Merritt or McQuay et al run that leg??

The 600 AR should be good for a 400, don't you think, after all, you are a proponent of the 400/800 conversion/predictions?

It will be someone like David Neville or Greg Nixon running the 400 leg.

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss Penn this year, the first I've missed since 2007. If someone ever invents a device that will allow you to be in two places at one time, I would defintely buy one. It's so wrong that the Drake Relays, the Penn Relays and the opening weekend of the New Orleans Jazz Fest take place on the same weekend.

Any big name athletes running at the Drake Relays? It seems that most of the US big name athletes will be taking part in the USA vs the World Relays at Penn

Well, to be able to stay (at least almost ) at home and go to the Jazz Festival is a choice that cannot be faulted. You can report from there as well.

Two CR's in the women's relays could go.
And Oregon might get both!!

The SMR record is 3:41.78.
UO's team consists of Francis, Prandini, Gardner, and Roesler.
To get the record, assuming that's the line-up...and order of running....Francis would need to run 52 or 53, Gardner under 23.0, Prandini around 23, and Roesler a 2:02 or 2:03.
Tough, but doable.

However, UO might break the record....and LOSE!!
That's because LSU has a FANTASTIC threesome on their squad!
If Lipsey runs the 400, she could do 52 or 53. (But Goule, who ran 2:00.76 for 800, has a 51 PR!)
They'll have Kimberly Duncan on one of the 200 legs, and Goule on the anchor (unless they reverse Goule and Lipsey!).
LSU would be favored on the 800 leg, and Duncan's 200 leg (even against Gardner!), with Francis probably faster on the 400 leg.

The CR could go....but even odds on which team prevails!!

The 4 X 1500 record is a bit tougher....mainly because the key player for Oregon's team is AWOL. Jordan Hasay is saving herself for her Stanford 10K.

But even without Hasay, the 4 team members 1500 PR's add up to about 17:06....about 2 seconds better than the 17:08.34 CR.

It's doable......NEVER underestimate Oregon!!!....but tough!!

P.S. One UO member is from my hometown....Bellingham WA!!! (Becca Friday!!)
Yayyyy!!! :D

According to today's Penn Relays press release, two additional athletes who will be attending the USA vs the World press conference at Penn (and who I assume will be competing) are Janeth Jepkosgei (Kenya) and Christine Ohuruogu (Great Britain). It will be interesting to see who their teammates will be, if TBO is running the 4x4 for the United Kingdom and Jepkosgei is running the 4x8 for Kenya...

I think it is a text-derived short cut for 'my mistake' and other similar, longer explanations.

Is it me or is Jamaica's high school athletes noticeably older than USA's? I also noticed that Shaunae Miller, NCAA indoor 400m champ is entered in the high school section of the meet, is this a typo?

The University of Georgia, Shaunae Miller's school, is competing at the Drake Relays, so I don't think anyone will see Shaunae Miller at Penn. (She isn't listed as running on the Bahamas USA vs the World women's 4x4 team at Penn either, in case anyone thought that might be a possibility.)

As far as age goes, the Penn Relays high school eligibility requirements are:

Specific eligibility requirements, such as that of age limit, shall be those established by the State High School Athletic Association under which they regularly compete. However, in no instance may an athlete exceed the following limits:

Age limit: athlete may not turn 20 before July 1 of 2013.

High School attendance limit: 8 semesters (7th and 8th grade students are ineligible, as are students who may have participated during their 7th or 8th grade years).

I've been aware of the birth dates of various top relay team members at Penn over the years, and there does seem to be a slightly higher percentage of 19 year olds on Jamaican teams (most likely due to differences between the US and Jamaican secondary school systems), but that isn't always the case. At any rate, as long as it's okay with the scholastic athletic association that the athlete normally competes under, a high school athlete at Penn can be almost 19 years and 10 months old..

Edwin Allen (Clarendon, Jam) shattered the ER (Event Record) at Penn with their 4X100 time of 45.41. (old record was 46.56)
They won the overall event by almost 3 seconds.
They won their heat by almost FIVE seconds!

It should be pointed out that the "Event Record" above is only a record for the Large Schools category consolation race, for the teams that didn't make the Championship of America final. The 4x100 finals are on Friday afternoon along with the large school and small school consolations.

The Penn Relays Girls HS 4x1 record is 44.32 by the Vere Tech team that was anchored by Simone Facey in 2004, with the Large Schools Penn Relays record being 44.50 by Long Beach Poly (with Jasmine Lee and Shalonda Solomon), also in 2004. Interestingly, the 46.56 "event record" mentioned above was set by Bethel, Virginia, anchored by Francena McCorory, again in 2004.

Here's an up to date, informative capsule on Aaliyah Brown:

http://parser.dyestat.com/search.jsp?at ... Xlr7I58vww

Unfortunately, she'll probably be about 10 - 15 meters behind the leader when she gets the baton in the final.. The two American teams who made the championship final tomorrow have their work cut out for them.
