I will be there. This is the 61st (?) anniversary of my first Texas Relay. Although I missed some while off living life, I will be officiating my 25th (?) consecutive Texas Relays.

Over the course of four days, you can count on the weather at the Texas Relays fluctuating between 34 F -105 F, sun, rain, sleet, hail wind 0 to 40 mph ....sometimes all in the same year..
Only one tornado, back when track was still inside Memorial statium, blew the PV pits from SW corner to top of stands in NE corner of the stadium...we watched from shelter of the north facing, glass front athletic building at south end of stadium as first the south and then north goal post were flattened by the wind....awesome!

No wind gauge.

Ashley Spencer move up to the hurdles! The women 400 hurdles is loaded.

I've witness Cameron Burrell competed in two meets here in Houston, the young kid is a beast on the track! He brought his team from 7th place to 1st on the anchor leg in the 4x100 at the Victor Lopez meet at Rice last weekend.

Not going to be there but wish I was. The men's university hurdles includes eight of the ten on TFN's first formchart.

An event that could be very, very fun to watch: women's sprint medley.

I think LSU is going to win this one. Look for Tx A&M to win the 4x100 & 4x00.
I also see Texas, Oregon & Arkansas fighting to the finish line in the 4x400.

Looking at the elite women's 4x100m, Muna Lee is running the third leg on one team and the anchor on another. Lets hope the teams are in the lanes next to each other!

Glad to see VCB racing both relays, her 400m leg will be an interesting indication of her strength at the moment, which was lacking in 2012. Anyone know her best time for 4x400m leg?

Curtis Beach off to a nice start in the decathlon, with 10.68 (2.8) in the 100 and 24' 10" / 7.57m (3.0) in the long jump. His legal PR's per IAAF going in, were 10.78 (1.6) and 7.42m (1.0).

Erica Bougard ran the 100H in 13.39 (1.3), for 1066 points.
Makeba Alcide ran 13.96 for 984 points in 5th.

Going by her 5270 score from 2011.....she's vastly improved in the hurdles!!
In that 5270, she ran it in 14.55!

Erica Bougard HJ's 5-11 and 1/4 (1.81) for 991 points.
Two-event total of 2057!

Again referring to that 5270, she did only 1.67 there, so improved quite a bit!

A great start for Beach, yes, but his best deca score is 8083 (7764 according to IAAF), so realistically, I'm hoping to see him over the 8000 point barrier (which also is "B" standard). He'd have to be right at his PR's in the remaining 7 events to hit the 8200 "A" standard.

Bougard also starts her heptathlon with two PR's, 13.39 (1.3) vs. previous PR of 13.64 (-0.2), and 5' 11 1/4" / 1.81 vs. previous PR of 5' 8 3/4" / 1.75.

Bougard's bubble bursts.....sort of.
Again using her 5270 as my example, her SP of 10.33 was far better than the 8.95 from the 5270.

However, I'm certain gktrack will have an updated mark.
(My only research tool was the 2012 FAST Annual.)

BTW, she got 551 points in the SP, for a total of 2608.

Alcide--3480
Annie Kunz--3471
(All others under 3400.)

Bougard ran 24.20 for 962 points. (Wind legal at 1.1.)
Alcide did 24.38 for 945 points.

You can watch the meet live on Longhorn Network, check with your service provider.

Beach is done HJ after clearing 1.99m (6' 6 1/4"), off his outdoor PR of 2.03 (6' 8") and 5 inches below what he jumped indoors a month ago... but still a nice 4 event total for Curtis with 8000 well-within reach.

Bougard is doing relatively well with her 3570 1st day total, well-ahead of her PR 5,547 pace, with 3 outdoor PRs (had a longer shot indoors) and missed her 200 PR by 0.12 secs.

Beach's first day total of 4,219 points is very likely his best first day total. He was at 4,206 en route to his 2011 2nd place NCAA Champ score of 8,083 (not sure why IAAF site lists 7,764 as his deca PR?).

Beach's 8000 point decathlon was done over 3 days as the 1500 was postponed until the next day due to weather conditions IIRC.

Thanks highjumpfan - that explains everything (also, why that 3:59.13 2011 NCAA 1500 is far superior to any of his other deca 1500's). Hopefully he'll get a legit 8000 point total this meet.

Few additions and score projections:
Curtis Beach:
100: 10.68 (+2.8) - an improvement of one tenth with a strong back wind
LJ: 7.57 (+3.0) - Not a PB as he jumped already 7.60w and a legal 7.57
SP: 12.57 - a good outdoor PB (previous 12.08), threw 13.07 in this indoor season
HJ:1.99 - weak
400: 48.21 Beach is a good 400 runner with a PB of 46.90
Total score first day - 4,219 (PB 4206)

When he scored his (not legal) PB Beach second day performances were:
14.76-38.07-4.80-48.47-3:59.18
Whether he will go over 8000 points is largely dependent on his PV. His PB is 4.80 (4.90 indoor). If he will jump close to this mark then he has a good chance to pass 8,000. However, if will jump 4.40 like in the last USATF he is unlikely to pass 8,000. Of interest is his DT and JT he need a big improvement (current PBs 39.44 48.42) if he is to challenge Lazas and Taiwo later on this summer.

Erica Bougard:
110h: 13.39 a PB previous one 13.64
HJ: 1.81 a PB had a PB of 1.75 outdoor and 1.80 indoor
SP: 10.33 outdoor PB (10.23) but already threw 11.00 indoor
200: 24.20 compared with 24.08 PB from previous year
Total first day: 3570

She is a good long jumper (PB 6.43 indoor), horrible Javelin thrower (30.79) and very good in the 800 (2:10.80 indoor and 2:14.16 outdoor). Assuming 6.30, 33.00 and 2:12.00 she will score close to 6,000 points. However, she still need a large improvement in the throws in order to be competitive even in the relatively weak American scene.

Good info olorin - thanks for the post... Looks like both have a reasonable shot at B standards (8000/5950), but A standards (8200/6100) look out of reach at this meet.

I was hoping one of these days/years Beach would really improve on his throws, certainly not today... he threw less than 120' (36.37m) in the discus after a foul and a 33m 2nd round throw. Oh well...
