From what I hear, J.J. Clark will be gone after this season. If so, I hope they give Vince Anderson a hard look.

wonderful to at least have a writer who cares/knows enough about the subject to write on it.

Marvin West is such a great writer and gentleman. Former sports editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel who moved on to head Scripps-Howard sports. Has written several books on Vol sports and knows every one of our sports very well.

Why, because of his success as an assistant in Knoxville?

j.j. clark it could be argued is the best womans coach in american history in the 800 event, off the top of my head.
jearl miles clark
delisa walton floyd
joetta clark
hazel clarlk

only 10 or 11 american women have broke 1:58 and he was the coach of 4 of them.

then he has had other good 800-1500 women runners.
alisa harvey-hill
sarah bowman
phoebe wright 1:58.22 for 800 and still young.

this is just off the top of my head.

Yes, and at A&M of course. I guess my point is that the actual “coaching” of athletes doesn’t seem to be where UT is falling short in its combined program era. As Doug points out, Clark’s credentials as an event coach are surpassed by few. None of this is to say that Vince Anderson could not run a program (I have no idea), but it is program building and administration that allows the Henrys, Lanannas, Bramans, etc. to take advantage of the resources at places like LSU, TAMU, Stanford, Oregon, FSU – not event group coaching success.
