The aforementioned Eugene Hamilton III (Oakland Bishop O'Dowd), the CA state 800m leader (1.50,19 Arcadia win and =2 USA (Bernie Montoya)), doubled at NCS Bayshore last week in a leisurely 4.20,0/1.54,4. He has dropped the 800m and is now attempting to make it to the CA state meet in the 1.600m; he's run a 4.12,74y (4.11,28c), and won his heat at the North Coast Section Meet of Champions Friday afternoon.

Hamilton III ran 1.52,8 last season, but didn't make it out of the state prelims. He brings improved 23,98/49,26/1.21,70/1.50,19 credentials to the table for today's 1.600m final.

Prep 400
- inching closer to 45.xx as Marcus Chambers is new prep leader going 46.36 PR in the WA state meet winning by 2.5 seconds... double winner as he also ran 21.30 PR.

- still VA state finals still to come for Michael Cherry, as he's rounding into form with an easy double at VA regionals, 21.37 (1.2) PR and 47.31 win, also by 2+ seconds.

Prep LJ - Jalen Ramsey (TN) goes 25-3.25 / 7.70, but unfortunately NWI.

Prep HJ - co-US #1 Rachel Proteau (OR) at 6-01.

Are all states required to follow National Federation rules, or are those just model rules, suggested for state adoption?

another altitude (approx. 1600m) HS #1...
- Marybeth Sant - 11.25 (1.8), in second was soph. Alleandra Watt 11.41
Note: Sant did hold her own in the adidas Dream 100 a week or two ago, barely losing to then #1 Ky Westbrook.
- Watt later won the 200 in 23.67 (1.8)... as a soph, she's also run a 53.78 400m

The Portland Track Festival will probably get its own thread later in the week, but there is some HS-specific competition included that is worth mentioning here. In addition to Mary Cain's entry in the 5k, Elise Cranny, Alexa Efraimson, Katie Knight & Amy-Eloise Neale are also slated to compete.

Meet site here, but as of now no other info on entries:

I'm in NCAA mode, but some good HS action at the Great Southwest Classic today (6/8) - when you have some time to take a peek...
6 of top-10 nation's 100m girls lineup today in one of many good lineups...

#4 or #5 on the all-time HS (depending on how you look at it) decathlon score by Wolf Mahler at the Great Southwest Classic - 7420 points with HS implements (I believe 7065 with junior implements). Heading to Texas next year, another promising decathlete for the Longhorns.

Portland Track Festival, 8 June

women's 1500 high performance
Elise Cranny 4:15.86
Alexa Efraimson 4:16.00 PB

I think it's the case that Cranny had already become #3 a-t HS at this distance; this would make Efraimson #4 on the a-t list.

Reading today's article via T&FN on Kansas' Lindsay Vollmer (NCAA Heptathlon Champ), there was mention of a local high school junior who's leaning toward the multi-events, Alexa Harmon-Thomas.
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2013/jun/09/opinion-kansas-lindsay-vollmer-multiple-threat/

Alexa won the recent Kansas HS State titles in 100H (14.11), 300H (42.70), LJ (19-5)...
She also has marks of HJ (5-10.5), 200 (25.09), 800 (2:28.43), JT (82-7.75), SP (32-9.25)
Her best marks already add up to a respectable heptathlon score of 5257, and she just won the Great Southwest Heptathlon with 5158 points... maybe another Jayhawk multi-eventer in the making...
