USATF Results: Day 2 [AR for Suhr, then WR]

Postby aaronk » Sat Mar 02, 2013 3:25 pm

In the first women's 800 prelim, Wilson beat Price, times of 2:04+.
Gwen Berry started the WT competition with a WL of 80-1 1/2.
First 80 footer this year!!

BTW, the Runner Space "coverage" of the meet is AWFUL!!
The camera is STILL!!
So all you see is what's straight ahead!
During the 800, you saw the gals running past, then saw nothing, then saw them again when they came around again....for a split second!!
They DID move the came to the WT area to intoduce the WT contestamts, then went catatonic again!!

Berry improved to 81 feet one-half inch on her 2nd throw, then did 78_ on her 3rd.
All 3 tosses are better than 2nd place Amber Campbell.
Berry is less than 4 inches away from the MR!!

Boy, I'll tell ya.....that women's 3K musta been SOME race!!
Too bad the Livestream "coverage" of the meet allowed you to "see" the race......on the monitor behind the pole vault runway.....as they came by every 35-40 seconds or so......no one recognizable....as the screen was a bit blurry from a distance.

Yep, coverage of our track meets just keeps getting better and better!!

(TOTAL SARCASM!!!)

Anyway, the top 3 were:

Reilly....9:23.12
Infeld...9:23.24
Uhl......9:23.37.

Will Leer "won" the men's 3000....against a massive field of FOUR.....time of 8:07 and change....almost 9 secs ahead of somebody in 2nd!!

I've seen better results....and better fields!!....at friggin' all-comers meets!!

I betcha that women's mile tomorrow will be a real barnburner!!!
Might even break 4:50!!
Hey, it might be more exciting to.....BURN A BARN!!!
(Do they have barns in New Mexico??)

You do realize the track portion is on NBC Universal? That precludes Runnerspace from webcasting those events.

The women's PV is ONE exception to the dullness of this "championship" meet so far.

So far, it's....

Saxer and Janice Keppler at 15-1
Hutson is at 14-11, and Holliday at 14-9.
And Suhr hasn't even jumped yet!!

Keppler's mark is a PR!
In fact, she got her FIRST PR at 14-9.
And now she's at 15-1.

Hmmmmm....the quote thingy ain't working!
But in reply to "gm", yes, I DO know about RunnerSpace's contractural limitations....but I LIKE to complain!!
Blame it on my being from New Jersey!! (LOL)

Anyway, Suhr and Hutson both have 15-5...with Suhr ahead on less misses.
For Hutson, that's an indoor PR...and places her 3rd on the A-T indoor US list!!
Saxer missed 3 times, so gets her 15-1...as she passed 15-3.
Keppler, with her 15-1 PR, takes 4th.

Is this the first time the US has had four 15 footers in the same meet, indoors or out??

Hutson got an in-out PR of 15-7!!
Suhr made 15-9.
I imagine Hutson is still jumping at 15-9!!
(Hard to tell by the results chart...as they don't even have 15-7 up, let alone 15-9!! Just the numbers on the leaders list!)

ADD: Aaaah, now they have it revised!

Hutson missed 3 times at 15-9, so finishes at 15-7.
Don't know what height Suhr will try next.
Will she try 15-11....or go all the way to 16-1 for a US indoor record??

Two misses - no misses until after she broke the indoor WR and was shooting for the overall WR.

Now three and out; collect your accolades, lady!

WOW! Jenn Suhr is amazing!!! SO glad she broke a world record, with her gold it kinda allows her to step out of Isinbayeva's shadow and is crafting her own history and legend with the Pole Vault.

At altitude of at least 1490 metres or more and her performance in Albuquerque was marked as Altitude in the 2011 ATFS Annual when she jumped a lesser performance. Isi is still the WR holder for me. However an outstanding effort from the OG Champion.

How many watched it? seemed like about a few hundred on the youtube site.

better angle of suhrs new wr

Not to quibble, but the announcer said, "nobody has ever jumped higher in the sport" . . . forgetting the all-important, 'indoors'.

I have never heard of altitude being a factor for the pv. I remember Billy Olson setting an indoor record in the mid 80s with no discussion. Of course Bubka took it back within days or weeks.

Hmmm. Looking at how well ALL the performers did last night you have to wonder. Either they all peaked perfectly for the biggest meet any of them have ever competed in, or just perhaps altitude just might actually help performance?

At the speed that the athletes go down the runway and the length of the runway, at ALQ altitude, the difference in the run time would be well less than 0.01. The effects of altitude on the sprints in Zurich are much greater than of altitude in ALQ on the PV. Now Atlanta might be low enough that the effects are similar but maybe Atlanta is still too high for the effects on the sprints to be only equal to ALQ's effect on the PV.
