Re: results for usatfMen's hept SP remains a great mystery.
Re: results for usatfIf things hold reasonably close to form, shouldn't Nixon have the lead at the end of today. Isn't he a much better HJer than Hardee? Tomorrow things will change quickly, but that is tomorrow.
Re: results for usatfNixon is having an excellent day with 2 PRs so far. He is over 2.05 in the HJ and Hardee cleared 1.96 and went out.
Re: results for usatfBeech has now improved from 2.05 to at least 2.11 and Nixon is over 2.11 as well.
For anyone who was concerned about Beach not improving, it looks like he is doing OK..
Re: results for usatfand he has a ace in the hole with the last event, beach does
Re: results for usatfI am too lazy to run the calculator for everyone, but this turning into an interesting competition.
Nixon is going to have a tidy lead at the end of the day. Beach has the 1000 tomorrow where he will crush everyone. His HJ PB will make a big difference. Hardee will likely crush everyone in the PV and the hurdles.
Re: results for usatfNixon is strong now in the 1500m (and 1000m). Remember the World Juniors. But Hardee may very well get 17 or better in the vault in addition to his strong hurdles.
Nixon looks like he ultimately will be a decathlete without a weakness.
Re: results for usatf
Beach also 13.07PB in the SP (previous PB 12.80).
Re: results for usatf
The big 3 1 Gunnar Nixon Unattached 3527 (6.86, 7.42m, 14.27, 2.14) 2 Trey Hardee Nike 3405 (6.77, 7.34m, 14.77m, 1.96m) 3 Curtis Beach Unattached 3318 (7.13, 7.37m, 13.07m, 2.11m) 60h (each 0.1 worth 25 points) Hardee is by far the best with a PB of 7.70 Nixon and Beach have PBs of 8.09 & 8.15. Hardee doesn’t look at his best whereas Nixon broke his 60 PB by 0.23. I think that Hardee will win roughly by 0.15, which will also be the difference between Nixon and Beach. PV (10 cm equal 30 points) Nixon weakest event as his PB is only 4.70. He needs to improve 10cm-20cm if he is to challenge Hardee (SB 5.20) for the title. Beach needs to be close or above his best (4.90) to keep his chances for the title. 1000 (every second worth ~11.5 points). Beach PB is 25 second better than Nixon and 30 second better than Hardee. However, if there will be a title on the line then both athletes (especially Nixon) are likely to cut this deficit. I think that if by the end of the PV the gap will be less than 200 then Beach will win, whereas if the gap is above 260 he will lose. If the title will decide between Nixon and Hardee than I will go with Nixon as he is likely to want it more. In fourth place Harlan is having a good competition with a wonderful PB in the SP of 16.82. On paper he has a decent second day and likely to medal if any of the first three will have an off event. Re: results for usatfday wins pent wade 2nd
thiam scored better, kid to watch
Re: results for usatf60h. Hardee DNF and Nixon PRs. Underwhelming run for Beach. This is Nixon's to lose.
correction. Beach had a pretty good 60h. it was .04 off his best. Last edited by Dave on Sat Mar 02, 2013 11:47 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: results for usatfwhat happened to hardee dnf, did he fall??
Re: results for usatfBeach only makes 4.40, way below his 4.90 PR.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonI took the liberty of changing the title of this thread to be event-specific, else we'd end up with a thread of too many conflicting thoughts. So if somebody wants to discuss another event, please start a new thread.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonNixon over at 4.80; previous indoor best was 4.50 (outdoor he has cleared 4.60 per iaaf).
Nixon has PR's in 4 out of the 6 events thus far, which is impressive for a guy with a 6,000 heptathlon already.
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathloncorrection-Nixon cleared 4.70 last year indoors, but 4.90 is still a PR by 20 cm.
a 2:40 in the 1000 for Nixon would give him 6250, good for #20 alltime. if he runs a 2:35 that would give him 6305, #13 alltime. Nixon ran a 4:22 in his final decathlon of the year last year, for what it's worth. He also ran a couple 4:30's last year, so I'm guessing he can beat the 2:40's he was running last year in the 1000.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonHardee - continuing to compete despite his hurdles DNF - clears 5.20. Indoor PR 5.30 dates from 2006; outdoor PR is 5.25.
He clears 5.30!
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonDecFan-do you know what happened to Hardee in the hurdles? Obviously he didn't get injured...
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathloneven with the dnf in the hurdles, nice to see he did a solid pv
good fight in him
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonNo, I don't know what happened in the hurdles. I presume he fell. Perhaps it will be shown on the Universal Sports broadcast later.
Hardee attempted 5.40 but did not clear. Gooris cleared 5.40, tying him for 11th all time in PV clearances in heptathlons>5000pts.
Re: results for usatf
Yes, but he might have gone only a lot higher that one time -- the NCAA meet a year ago. At least I seem to remember that he got about three PRs.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonBeach has a solid chance of 2nd or 3rd in this competition having lost first in the PV.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonNixon wins with 6232. 2nd best in the world this year. Beach well back with 5895.
Beach needs to spend some time on his PV. That said, his HJ was a huge improvement.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonWhat a fine job by Nixon, who after all is only a little over a year out of HS. Beach's score was good, but because he has done better it's a bit of a disappointment.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonDuring one of the lower height clearances Hardee grabbed his hamstring as soon as he hit the it. He continued competing but grabbed it several times during the remainder of the competition. He got into the blocks but took one step and stopped.
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathlon
RichC, are you talking about the HJ or the PV? PV would be strange, since he was already out of the overall competition and jumped all the way, even taking 3 attempts at 5.40. Doesn't appear he, at least, felt there was any chance of an injury.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonThe HJ is before the hurdles, so it would make sense that he was talking about the HJ.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonHardee went 7.76 in his HH heat today.
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathlonwatching Beach run that 1k in the video and aware of the raw talent in the jumps does anyone else think he would be well suited to the 400m/400H ?
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathlon
So, what happened yesterday??? 7.76 would have been worth 1043 points.
Re: USATF Indoor Heptathlon
I never actually heard--he must have simply hit hurdles and stopped or fell.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonYes, my apologies, I meant in an earlier post the High Jump. I listened to a significant number of people (both athletes and coaches) this weekend discuss how many were simply using this meet as training and I must surmise that is what happened in this case. As meet director I speak with large numbers of spectators and many were hugely disappointed that athletes were not competing to their fullest. We actually had several winners when interviewed over the public address system say to the crowd that the meet didn't mean much to them as they were training through it. Its awful hard to sell tickets and get folks excited when these type of things occur.
Re: USATF Indoor HeptathlonFrom Frank Zarnowski's DECA website: "Trey Hardee announced that he would just start the [60 HH] race allowing him to vault."
How odd. Since Hardee ultimately ran 7.73 in the open HH. http://decathlonusa.typepad.com/files/v ... h22013.pdf
