Lomong, Teg, Jager, Bumbi, Heath, Derrick... for free

I figured that this might get flagged for content, but the folks at Columbia University are opening the doors of The Armory free on Friday night for the 5k run at the Final Qualifier with the likes of Lopez Lomong, Matt Tegenkamp, Evan Jager, Andrew Bumbalough, Chris Derrick and Elliott Heath.

Free! 168th & Broadway, just off the A, C and 1 subway lines in Manhattan. The Friday portion is just an hour. Women's DMR, men's 1k, women's 5k, men's 5k.

Coogan's afterward? Not free.

If I still lived in Edgewater NJ or the Bronx NY, I'd definitely be there!!

As it is, I haven't been to NYC since 1970!!

What happened to Jager??
Did he intentionally fall off the pace, or was he not in shape to go the full 5K??
He ran his last K in just 2:58 or so!!
I think he was just 4 or 5 seconds back of Lomong at 4K.....so he lost 22 secs in that last K.

Was it planned that way??

in the lagat millrose race jager was pressing lagat, and faded the end of the race too

suspect he'sin heavy training for steeple, so when the racing counts, i think he'l be fine

Having watched video of the race, I would say az2004 is right re Jager -- he looked spent at the end of this one.

Great run for Derrick. PB by 7+ seconds. He was already #3 on the USA a-t indoor 5km list, so Lomong's NR actually makes him now #4, but his 13:12.00 does move him up a bit on the performance list, to #5, and certainly closer in terms of the quality of the performance:

Lomong 13:07.00
Lagat 13:07.15
Rupp 13:11.44
Lagat 13:11.50
Derrick 13:12.00

A good indicator for Derrick, as he moves toward WXC in 3 weeks.
