Renaud over 6,07 but the bar moves from the sprints and lands on the top instead and according to rules that is no good. Sickly unlucky, had it feel down back on the sprint it would have been ok.

Did it land on another part of the peg? Never seen anything like that before.

Edit: Just saw Frankie's explanation. Incredibly unlucky.

What a way to end the Euros!!

With TWO controversies...not just one!

First, you had the Lavillenie ruling!
Then GB's DQ in the men's 4X400R!!

But a pretty fine meet overall!!

Regardless of what you think about Veneva, it's incredible that she competed at the 1991 World Championships in a grueling event like the high jump - two years before Trost was even born.

Yes, I have seen the bar get hit and bounce up to land on the top surface. No, it is not remotely a make; it is not a technicality that it is on something different than the peg. That is not too far from saying that when it lands on the ground it is not too different, since they are both horizontal.

The problem is that it looks good, but it is not. I am sure that PVP has seen the same thing. You have to hit it pretty well for it to jump up off the peg for any distance. Question, was it only on one side or both -- I think I have seen both, and I do not officiate that many meets per year.

of course though I liked his reaction after that 6,07 cause I though it was all clear. He certainly has that height and summer is long and the only title he doesn't have-World.

I really got used to gold and silver 1.Lavillenie 2.Otto

I'm always a little suspicious of the location and/or technical issues when you have a plethora of (unexpected) NRs, PBs and other kinds of records in the same race or final. Or maybe I have gotten used to underwhelming performances at European Championships.

I think there are several factors:

-A lot of young athletes.

A lot of athletes getting medals are ones who might have had expected or aimed for a better Olympics. No coincidence they probably had more motivation to train harder over the winter and are more determined. Something to prove.

A number of European countries have broken through a number of talented young athletes recently, a lot of them seem to be breaking through into the elite here. Certainly that is the case with GB, France, Italy, Sweden and Russia.

A lot of European's seem to have had the attitude "can't beat the Jamaicans or Americans so I'll aim for this one" in areas like the sprints. Athletes want medals afterall.

And Naimova is back, it's good for Bulgarian athletics.

Didn't she keep Lalova out of the medals? One of the nicest athletes with a great global profile and most importantly everybody feels is dope free.

During the stream (and now as I try to playback) it stops like 10 seconds in and "authentication failed" comes up.

Anyone else have this problem?

Naimova may be back and it may be good for Bulgarian athletics, but I'm not sure it's good for the anti-doping movement. Here we find a world junior champion who is now back to the top of europe (indoors) and she's only 25! She ran 7.13, 11.04 and 22.43 before she turned 21 and then was busted for manipulating her urine.

i want to be excited for her and the overall strength of european sprinting - which acquitted itself well this weekend - but her win only leaves more questions about out sport and doping.

The Finnish Eurosport commentator certainly agrees with you - he forgot to mute his microphone after women's semifinal when they went to the ad break

Not that I disagree with his highly complimentary comment

On 3 February 2013, Thiam broke the junior indoor world record on the pentathlon at a meeting in Ghent. Carolina Klüft, who later became Olympic champion and triple world champion, had held the record since 2002 with 4535 points. Thiam totalled 4558 points,

currently in 3rd after shot at euro indoors

Thiam mark won't be ratified as a WJR. Apparently there was no doping control at the meet, and by the time they got her to an approved facility the next day the window of legality had closed. (I hasten to add this doesn't mean she is suspected of having done anything wrong; just that the letter of the law as required for record ratification couldn't be met)
