Those above him have one of three things:

Christchurch 02.02.1974 meet
Auckland 03.02.1990 meet (what meet was this? CWG?)
John Walker

Don't know what CWG is.
But the meet was the "Let's have a world champ 1500m qualifying attempt for NIck" meet.

Athletics NZ requires Nick to achieve 3:35.0
May be he will do it in a few days in OZ

Yes the 1990 times were from that year's Commonwealth Games. John Walker's last big-meet race where he was tripped by the Aussie Pat Scammell (apparently he had a history of doing that). I was lucky enough to see all of the Track & Field at those Games including the Marathons and Walk events!

AS -- thanks for the historical data. Puts Willis' performance this week in an interesting perspective: One of the fastest non-championship times ever in NZ -- after Walker, the fastest in that category.

Willis is a favorite of mine, and I wish him well this year. Hope he gets his 3:35 soon. Perhaps the Sydney meet coming up will have deeper competition.

(I'll add that I too had the good fortune, probably never to be repeated in any way with attendance at any championship, to be at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. What an enjoyable experience!)

Nick: "You guys know I ran 3:30 last year, right?
ANZ: "But what have you done for us lately"?
