Mud Glorious Mud

The annual mud fest otherwise known as the English National Cross Country Championships took place Saturday at Herrington Country Park near to Sunderland, which to track fans in the know is close to the homes of some UK middle and distance greats of the Golden Era of UK athletics of the 70's/80's.

Anyway snow in the morning after a record wet 2012 and thousands of runners meant it was always going to be a muddy epic.

See for yourselves;

I love this stuff. It doesn't matter how fast the times are; this is a great event.

An English friend of mine son got 11th in the under 15's. The video was pretty amazing. Mud and muck and snow. Sunderland is tough this time of year.

Thanks for sharing these pics. Read a bit about the event on Athletics Weekly. Great races -- xc still my favorite discipline in all of this athletics stuff.
