US vs Jamaica sprint clash on again?

Postby shivfan » Tue Feb 26, 2013 7:17 am

"President of USA Track and Field (USATF) Stephanie Hightower told the Jamaica Observer that they will be holding discussions with Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) President Dr Warren Blake and the minister of sport Natalie Neita- Headley about making it happen. Hightower and the association's chief executive officer, Max Seigel, were in the island late last week where they attended the funeral service for late North America, Central America and Caribbean Area Association (NACAC) president Neville 'Teddy' McCook on Sunday. On Saturday Hightower and Seigel were at the National Stadium where they watched the Gibson Relays, a meet McCook helped to found."

They have been talking about this for years. I am not holding my breadth however.

To make it happen, they(USA Track and Field) will have to bring on big name sponsors with mega cash to pay these top athletes. Money talks. When asked about such a possible clash a few years ago, Veronica Campbell said "Sure, why not. As long as the money is right."

This bores me. It should be USA vs. the World now that the Soviet Union doesn't exist anymore.

Yes, but a dual meet would look like this, with 3 2 1 scoring for the men; it would be better for the women because of high scores in some events like the TJ, 400h etc.

This is not a dual meet, this is a landslide. I would bet that there are a large number of countries that would do better because they would pick up a lot of Field event points and distance points (although the US has picked up a lot there.

all i know is penn relays is just a big party for the jam fans

while it is usa vs world, when the kenyans bringsome good talent their dmr is worth watching
last year the jamaican prime minister was there, for the 50th anniversary of their founding
and based on jam crowd response, she is a very popular lady

The meet would not have events Jamaica does not participate in such as TJ, 3000m, etc. It would be primarily sprint races and relays.

That is not a dual meet. The sport is track and field, not lets run for almost 20 seconds.

But most non-championship meets feature -- rather than the "complete program" -- a selection of events appropriate to the promoters' ideas about what might make a good meet. My opinion is at best worth 2 cents, but I think a well-presented USA-Jamaica meet that focused on those events in which the two nations are most well-matched (mostly sprints, relays, but could include 800m & DMR, perhaps) would be a good event. Not predicting it would ever happen, but it could be a good meet. Just my opinion.

Do they really not participate in these events?

Not that we don't compete... We just generally suck.... We should also include Russia perhaps if we want to have more events.
