Her return to elite level was quick!! Great news

Not quite impressive, but a return to form nonethless, was news that Fabrice Lapierre lept 8.25m (1.3) at a Rice All-comers meet (that's the A qual exactly). He backed it up with a 8.16m also

http://www.athletics.com.au/home/news/n ... _a-qualifi

That moves him up to #9 on the yearly list and is his longest jump since 2010 (and his 6th best legal result ever).

Wind was +1.0

He has backed that up with other performances over the past month:
10.43 (0.5)
10.46 (-0.8)
10.53 (-1.0)

& 20.96w (2.3)
21.16 (0.2)

Presumably this is the 2nd fastest ever by a 15yo (Darrel Brown is 15yo WB holder with 10.36):
http://age-records.125mb.com/

(and yes, I know Bolt ran 20.58 at 15!)

Competition or jump (she has meets with multiple jumps at 2m or higher)?

Some good 200m performances also on the islands:

Bahamas W 200m (+0.9)
1. Anthonique Strachan 22,32 PB
2. Shaunae Miller 22,45 AJR

T&T W 200m (+0.3)
1. Kelly-Ann Baptiste 22,36 NR (previous PB 22,60 from '09).

The plot thickens. Did Shaunae run the 400 at her trials?

Besides Jam, T&T, and Bahamas are there any other Carib Islands with any noteable trials? Grenada or Antigua perhaps?

No, she did not.

Is she using her NCAA season to build fitness/endurance for the 200 or something? I thought the 400 was her main event,

Can this season get any bloody better ?? Jesus .... I really wasn't expecting that from Strachan or Miller and as for Baptiste welcome to the plot girl. The 200m is really looking to be a superb event come August.

Apparently Miller seems to be only doing the 200m in Moscow. I thought she would have had a go at the 400m

She does intend to run the 400. She only ran the 200 because there wasn't any competition really at her trials in the event.

It looks like Gamze Bulut is set to race for the first time since the Olympics over 5000m at the Mediterranean Games which are taking place in the dubiously named Nevin Yanit Stadium.

Haven't been following the event too closely but I was surprised Abeylegesse, despite her lack of form, lost to Kenza Dahmani (who I've never heard of) in the 10,000m.

Interesting return to form from Avan winning the jav with 83.84 after only 71 in Gateshead! Good 82.45 in 2nd from Abdelrahman (EGY).

Good 1500 from Hilali, 4:04.06 from Gega (ALB) 4:05.63 and Karakaya-Koyuncu 4:06.22, approaching her 2011 form after a poor 2012 and a poor run in Gateshead.

Decent TJ, 17.13/1.4 from Greco, 17.00/1.2 Tsiamis
20.45 Tsakonas, 20.46 Guliyev (first event for Turkey!) (-0.7), 23.18 Artymata, 23.20 Grenot, 23.40 Karakus (93) (-1.8) in 200
13.45 Douvalidis, 13.48 Martinot-Lagarde (-0.8) 110H
4.50 Ledaki, 4.40 Agirre, Buisson PV

Did notice Baniotis' result.

Bulut's race is tomorrow btw. I also see Mingir is running the steeple, though she was apparently implicated along with Cakir-Alptekin and Yanit, though she ran in Finland recently.

Not heard of either Moroccan who came 1st and 2nd in the W 400H...is Bidouane coaching them?!

Ozbilen won 1500 in 3:35.09.

Also from Sollentuna:

Sofi Flinck of Sweden threw the javelin 60.96, about 200-3.
She's still just 17 years old, born July 8, 1995!!
It's not an age 17 record, but it's not that far away.
Also not far from the age 18 mark!

Speaking of juniors, there is a big junior meeting in Mannheim/Germany tomorrow and on sunday, the Junioren-Gala, with lots of international guests. It's developed into the Zurich of juniors, i read that the Australian and New Zealand teams come over just for that meeting.
Entry list is here: http://2013.junioren-gala.de/pages/de/teilnehmer.php
And for anyone interested in junior athletics, there is even a live-stream (from 1pm local time) and live-results: http://www.leichtathletik.tv/2013/Sonst ... la13/1.htm

Bulut did not run the 5k, won by Bardelle (FRA) in 15:39.54. Mingir did run the SC, 3rd in 9:46.08, Betiche (ALG) won in 9:40.71.

Ozbilen won his 800 heat in 1:46.50
With Apak implicated in doping (see Cakir-Alptekin thread), El Gamal (EGY) won HT with 76.68.
Good TJ, Perra (GRE) 14.48/1.9, Rodic (SLO) 14.36/1.1; good SC, Ben Yahia (TUN) 8:14.05, Akdag 8:20.08, Ezzine (MAR) 8:21.03

In the 1500, Garrett Heath ran 3:36.43 (SB) for 4th.

Those top 3 in the 10K all faster than K Bekele. Will he be selected?

Note that all the entrants in the 10K races, except the pacemakers, were Ethiopian.

It looks like Defar wants to double. 2009 Berlin was the only global in which she doubled, where she was 5th and 3rd. That year, to get selected, she ran a 29:59.20 in the British NC.

If Defar and T Dibaba both double -- WOW!

Anita Hinriksdottir from Iceland (born 96) ran a 2:00.49 over 800m in Mannheim today which is at least as good as Mary Cain's 1:59 because Hinriksdottir ran her time in a junior race without any pace makers and 3 seconds ahead of the competition.

David Storl first time over 21 metres this season at the German Championships (SB 21.04m winning mark), rounding up to shape before Moscow.

Luis Rivera with a WL 8.47 jump at the World University Games. Maybe he'll start to get some attention now.
Menkov 2nd at 8.42.

Significant PBs (Heusden, 13 July) for NZL twins Zane (13:13.83) & Jake (13:15.54) Robertson. These times put them #3 & #4 on NZL a-t list, behind Adrian Blincoe & Dick Quax.

They are an interesting story, as in this Running Times profile from May 2011:
http://www.runnersworld.com/elite-runne ... -robertson

Brandon Johnson's 1:43.84 (Madrid, 13 July) makes him = #9 performer on USA's a-t list.

Ben True's 13:11.59 (Heusden, 13 July) makes him #11 performer on USA's a-t list.

I noticed also that Alysia Montano DNF in Madrid 800. Anyone have any information on that? Am hoping it is nothing, but can't recall other DNF for her.
