One from small college championships (NCAA D3): A double worth noting, primarily because of the proximity of the events: Christy Cazzola (U Wisc-Oshkosh) won the 1500m (4:17.22) & ~90 minutes later won the 800m (2:05.93).

She also won the 5000....time of 16:31.17!!
That's 30 team points by her alone!!

She also had heats in the 800 and 1500, times of 2:11 and 4:35!

Some D3 schools are not so small (15,000+ undergrads) ... just no athletic scholarships.

Dina Asher-Smith, a junior at just 17, ran 23.14 over 200m.

Apropos of nothing, but how did Perri Shakes-Drayton get her name?
Was she born Perri Shakes, then married a guy with the last name of Drayton??

She was born Shakes but loved Nando's sooooooo much she changed it by deed poll.

Yes. I am familiar with the D3 system; in that post, I casually used "small college" as a synonym for "D3." I will try to be more precise in future posts so as not to misinform or miscommunicate.

This is not correct, she did not have a double -- she had a TRIPLE, as she won the 5000 in about 16:30 not long after her 1500/800 double. She also had to do the heats of the 800 and the 1500 the day before. She had to come back and overtake the leader for a win of a second or two in the 5000.

Ustalova ran another sub 51 at the Pechonkina Cup yesterday, with Kapachinskaya opening her outdoor season fast:

1st. Ustalova 50.94
2nd. Kapachinskaya 51.05
3rd. Tamkova* 51.52
....8th. Nazarova 53.96

*Tamkova is a new name. She's just turned 23 and up until last year focussed on the 100/200. She ran a full season of 400's in 2012 with a best of 53.93 to finish 6th at the Russian U23 champs. She ran 53.41 indoors this year at the Russian winter meet (she came last) then came 11th at the Russian national indoors a week later, so this improvement to 51.52 is huge. It remains to be seen whether she will continue to improve or is a one-off. Possibly one to to watch these next few years.

She's getting very close to the UK junior record of 1:59.75 and she also has next season in the junior ranks too (only turned 18 in January).

It's a terrific opener and the strength work she put in during the winter already seems to be paying off. She ran 9:00.06 indoors for 3000m this winter which is a very solid performance for a junior predominantly specialising in the middle-distances!

A brilliant first run over 800m. She actually opened her season 10 days earlier in Italy, running 4.14,43 over 1.500m.

Judd followed up with a 2.00,71 victory at Loughborough four days later, on 19-May. Unfortunately, she placed only 13th over 1.500m at the Anhalt Meeting four days ago, running 4.17,90. She's won neither of her 1.500m races this season.

Among all the other results from the past few days -- Rome DL, NCAA, the latest from Mary Cain -- worth noting that Matthew Centrowitz ran a significant 800m PB at the Portland Distance Festival (8 June). His 1:45.86 is a near-2 second improvement on his previous of 1:47.72 from 2012.

Also in this race, Tyler Mulder became the USA list leader with his 1:44.79 (.04 off his lifetime best); Joe Abbott 1:45.80 improves his PB from previous 1:46.59.

Matthew Centrowitz, faster on paper than Bernard Lagat, who, despite repeated attempts, could not muster a sub-1.46 at any point in his 1.500-focused career.

Perhaps Centrowitz can translate this new PB into an even fiercer kick.

Gwen Berry had a HT of 73.81 (242-1??) at the Chicagoland meet!
That makes her # 3 American All Time, and just the 3rd to surpass the 240 barrier!

20.72/1.6 .. > 20.8 basic; that is a mere 1.5 seconds off his PR (and he was really falling apart the last 40m). Biggest stunner of the day, possibly. I want to see a little more detail and I also expect his next race is a big improvement.

In France, Nelly Jepkosgei, history's worst pacemaker, ran a 2:02.47 to win the 800, then ran a PR 2:00.32 June 8 in Italy. In the latter meet, Queen Harrison ran 12.64 into a .8 mps wind, beating Lolo Jones, 12.74 and Tiffany Porter, 12.83.

In Slovenia, Yuriy BorzakOvskiy ran 1:45.72, winning by over a second. There was an article on RusAthletics recently about him; he's "hot-to-trot" for Moscow. He is practically a god over there.

In Cuba, Pedro Pablo Pichardo TJ'd 17.69 (WL).

Andreas Thorkildsen, 84.64

Hengelo, among other things:
Churandy Martina 20.23 (2.0)
Consesius Kipruto finished 14th in a PR 3:39.57, in a race won by Silas Kiplagat, 3:35.69
The 5K that K Bekele DNF'd was won by Muktar Edris, 13:04.65 from Augustin Choge, 13:05.31.
Ryan Brathwaite 13.21
In the Kingston meet in which Yohan Blake ran 20.72, the 100 featured PRs from Kemar Bailey Cole, 9.96 (+1.5), Warren Weir, 10.02 and Jason Livermore, 10.18.
Kamila Stepaniuk PR'd at 1.99, a Polish NR on June 9.

There have been 19 performers with 23 performances sub 13:10 so far this year. Soi, Alamirew, Longosiwa and Koech each have two.

In the US, Amy Hastings ran 15:09.59 and Mary Saxer PR'd at 4.70.

Lots of interesting stuff.

Here's a loose translation of comments by BorzakOvskiy after his 1:45.72 opener:

This year I spent an unusually long time in the mountains. I spent a month at camp in Kirgiziya, then went to Kislovodsk where we trained for two months. Right now I estimate my form at 80% of my best. Naturally, I will continue to gain. This is my assignment for the "Moscow Challenge". Of course, I'm going to run for the win, result secondary, but if the organizers find a pacemaker I"m ready for a quick pace. It's good that we're going to perform in the big arena; it's important to test ourselves there before the Worlds. We Russians, true, have another opportunity at the Nationals to compete at Luzhniki, but for foreigners this is the only chance to try out the runways and throwing sectors where in August the championship medals are going to be distributed.

Cheers,

This has not be a great year for the LJ, and it looks like this is the best overall result set I have seen. Fifth is still over 8 meters (NWI, but the others are just about 2, so similar might be expected).

Two surprising results in men's track events from the Bulgarian NC:

100: Denis Dimitrov (94) 10.16/1.5 NJR! (previous best 10.71 from '10!)
3000SC: Mitko Tsenov (93, 2012 ECCC silver) 8:27.09 (solo run, previous best 8:45.86, did 8:52.24 last year) (fastest since Kashanov in early 80s? NR is 8:25.02 by Mikhail Zhelev in winning the 1969 EC)

Add to men's 100: Kirilov 10.34, Kremenski (91) 10.35, Boyan Petrov (92) 10.40

Stambolova lost 400 to Nikolova, 52.61 to 52.75
SP: Mavrodieva 18.48
Danekova won 3000SC (9:46.54) and 1500 (4:36.07, don't know if Yordanova competed)

Don't have the details...or confirmation......but it was just reported on Twitter that Luguelen)Santos ran 43.98 in Puerto Rico
Meet was in San Juan sometime this past weekend, according to the tweet.
Assuming it's true, this gives Santos the WL mark, and a PR by a large 0.47!!

Alas, today's 17-June, not 1-April.

Which 'real' trustworthy sites, actual Dominican Republic news, speedy results services like Trackalerts, or any auto-updating stats-carrying database have you looked this up on? Try this site's own homepage for starters. Not there? Cause it didn't happen.

Moreover, one'd assume that he'd state it had others 'forgot' to mention it:

I find that hard to believe, Santos ran a 45.69 in Oslo on thursday evening. He then flew back to Puerto Rico on friday and a day or two later ran a 43.98?

Tilastopaja has results from several meets this past weekend, including four from yesterday, but nothing from Puerto Rico.

Guess that tweet was a "twick"!!
Seriously, the reason I put it up without waiting or further research was because the original tweet was retweeted by Jesse Squires, who is reliable.
Guess it was too good to be true!

BTW, I DO think he CAN go sub-44!!
