Track surface detailed info

Postby fasttrack85 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 12:49 am

Is there a thread where we can post about tracks surface details? Such as hardness, surface material, banking, etc that might influence whether it may be fast or slow.

I am curious to know if anyone has info on Lievin and Movska. I notice Lievin has both the indoor 200 meter world records for men and women with some outrageous fast times such as Ottey 21.87. Also feel free to contribute random info on tracks if you think they ae important. Thanks.

For the 200, it is not only the surface, per se, but the amount of banking and how high -- including (unfortunately) how high they start above the finish. It is rather surprising that they allow any records in a downhill race, and if you are starting 2 meters up (not quite that high) it is a 1% slope, ten times what is allowed for road races to be official records.

Also, since the 200 is not run that often at top level competitions beyond the US collegiate 'arena' the 200 record is not going to change much.
