Australian Results, News and Views - 2013OK, time for a new Aussie thread (without the horrible title too!).
Sally Pearson returned to the track in a very low key fashion over the weekend: 200m: 1 Pearson, Sally 27 Gcv 23.51 -0.8 http://www.qldathletics.org.au/liveresu ... /index.htm Leading outdoor 200 this year (a smidgin ahead of countrywoman Melissa Breen's 23.52 in Adelaide). Correction: Breen ran 23.46 (0.4) at ACT champs week earlier (Not yet showing up on Tilastopaja.org) Last edited by AS on Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:06 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: Australian Results - 2013Sam McEntee of Perth and Jordy Williamsz of Melbourne are both having solid indoor seasons for Villanova. McEntee won the Big East indoor 3000m, Williamsz finished third, and Williamsz anchored the winning DMR.

McEntee has run 7:54.34i Some other Aussies in the College system with strong 2013 indoor results: Kevin Batt (Adams State): 4:05.57i and 7:57.62i Todd Wakefield (Washington State): 4:05.13i and 8:04.27i Lauren McKillop (Butler) 9:48.74i and 16:40.60i Other Aussies to keep an eye on: (M) Joshua Schmidt – Kent State Alexander Rose – Wake Forest Kane Grimster – Auburn Matt Johnsen – Lamar (W) Linden Hall – Florida State Grace Thek – Providence Mia Mackinnon – Indiana Oh, and of course, Steve Solomon at Stanford!! Who have I missed?
Re: Australian Results - 2013Steve Hooker vaulted in Perth last Friday (5m off short run). Still uncertain of his plans for 2013:

Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Having recently joined Twitter, Sally Pearson's shared that she's injured her hamstring with a 6cm grade 1 tear. She's said in the press she suffered something similar last year at the same time.

Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Are the above results from the March 9th Sydney Classic??
The date listed at the top of each event is March 3rd (THIRD!!). Reason I ask is because Michelle Jenneke was listed as an entrant in tonight's Classic!! She wasn't in the above results....at all....even as a DNS. Also, what time is it now in Sydney?? Here, in WA state, it's 3:04 a.m. (Pacific time). ADD: Okay, just checked the time! It's 10:10 p.m. there on the 9th. So why were the results dated the third?? And why didn't Jenneke compete, as scheduled??
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
9-3-2013 is the way much of the rest of the world would write March 3rd...9th day of the 3rd month of 2013. I had to take a second look too!
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
Her hammy (which has been giving her some probs so far this year) wasn't feeling 100% so she withdrew.
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013There is a two page spread on Pearson in the Sunday Telegraph today. It hasn't been published online as far as I can tell. I will transcribe it if it doesn't turn up in the next couple of days.
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Initial startlist for Perth is up:
http://www.athletics.com.au/freestyler/ ... 070313.pdf M100 (Ross,Leathart,McCabe,Newman,Hough) and MLJ (Watt? Lapierre, Rutherford, Gaisah) look to be highlights if conditions at Perth are as good as they can be. Couple of underwhelming women's 'internationals' in the list - US Pole Vaulter Kat Majester (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1230 ... lting-team) and Barbadian veteran Jade Bailey who was at a Mel Breen-type level four years back..
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Dani had all 6 throws over the A qualifier, and two over 64, 64.46 and 64.06 and 3 63s.
Breeze was not a negative, but not a huge favourable, it gusted and did not appear to gust at the right time for Dani during the comp however gusted a little more on her last warmup and she threw her longest throw of the night, looked plus 65
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
2nd fastest legal 200m of Ross' career... which is a little surprising. Good to see him back in shape at 32yo...
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013There was an Aussie victory at NCAA Div II on weekend also:
3000: 1. **Kevin Batt' (Adams) 8:07.30
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Nikki Chapple jumped straight into alltime top 10 Aussie women on debut in the Nagoya Marathon on the weekend:
2:22.36.0 Benita Willis (2006) 2:23.51.0 Lisa (O'Dea) Ondieki (1988) 2:25.51.0 Nickey Carroll (1999) 2:25.59.0 Kerryn (Hindmarsh) McCann (2000) 2:27.32.0 Lisa Weightman (2012) 2:28.51.0 Kate (Harris) Smyth (2008) 2:31.02.0 Jessica Trengove (2012) 2:31.19.0 Tani Ruckle (1988) 2:32:31 Nikki Chapple (2013) 2:32.37.0 Susan Hobson (2000) Trengrove's 2012 Nagoya run was also on debut...
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Ryan Gregson's 3:35.25 was his 3rd fastest 1500m time ever. That's quite a surprise for a guy who has run over 4 secs faster!
(of course, he also a couple of 3.52/low 3.53 miles which could be viewed as comparable). It's good to see him in fine early-season form...and hopefully working off a strength block (given his 5000m PB a couple of weeks ago)
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013She's a long way from being a world-class athlete, but Shelly Jenneke fans might be interested:

Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
Didn't know her real name is Shelly!! Always known her as Michelle!! I'm a big fan of hers.....but mostly for her....uh....non-athletic pursuits!! That she's raced a CAR...isn't surprising! Here's hoping she'll return to serious 100H racing....and get below 13.00.....so she could be seriously taken as an....ATHLETE!! LOL
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Very little excitement in terms of the results from the Perth meeting overnight.
Here are the few: Liam Zamel-Paez's 2.29 HJ. Best jump by an Aussie this millenium. Last Aussie to go that high (or higher) was Tim Forsythe back in 1999. moves to =5 on all-time list Brandon Starc improves another cm to 2.23 (on the same day his older brother almost scored a century at #9 against India in cricket!) Annaleise Rubie's 400m PB: 52.89 Greg Rutherford only managed 7.89 but still won! Series: 7.75m(+0.0) 7.64m(+0.0) 6.12m(-0.5) 7.89m(+0.0) 7.79m(-1.0) 7.59m(+0.0) Watt fouled first and had no more jumps! http://www.athletics.com.au/home/compet ... ic/results
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013New DT PB for Julian Wruck at Texas Relays: 66.01
Very solid series too 1 Wruck, Julian JR UCLA 66.01mM 216-07 64.59m FOUL 65.16m 66.01m 65.80m 64.55m c
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
Great consistency! The wind in the sprints was mostly illegal, so if these were thrown into the wind then that would give him a couple of metres but if thrown with a tailwind...
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Fantastic blogpost from Stanford-based Steve Solomon about transitioning from Olympic finalist to college freshman: http://www.runnerstribe.com/blog/46281- ... anford-Rio
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013today would have been kind of sad if not for our throwers, Kim, Julian take a bow (also Kelsey-Lee Roberts with 58.58 in second in Jav)
and Julian you are the real deal good luck to you, great throwing all 6 over the B and at least one over the A, think 66.36.. did not see all Kim's throws but at least 4 were over the B conditions good but no wind tunnel, great throwing and Julian starts .. facing 270 degs instead of zero, shows that a shorter thrower can compete MHJ the Starc boys are on a roll, Brendan won with 2.28 and that equals what Liam Zamel-Paez has got earlier this season but neither has the A of 2.31, but will AA send a guy with a B. Cameron Page emerged on the scene with 13.29 beating St Kawrence and did it the hard way, by leading most of the way, took lead back on last lap and brought it home Rowe had a great race beating the hard working from the front Riseley but again long, long way from B as for the rest, well Josh the Boss looks like he may be able to crack 10.30 if everything goes well, ... and Josh that rates you are ...what about 850 in the world, that has to be worth that dance .. very entertaining , but that B is just too far away our 400 guys could not crack 46, and not one B qualifier on thetrack, some good efforts though (but not many) TJ great potential but that is all and finally womens PV in front and centre stage, and considering the last 13 years made me want to cry. Wind was I thought not too bad (shows what I know) but seeing the Parnov's struggle as they did and Boyd bow out at 4.50, well just plain sad and Kobie Donovan won the ambulant, and won a lot of hearts for her determination as well, big scene stealer hope Ch 9 has plenty on Wrucky Kim and Kobie Donovan or they will not be back .. unless Josh maybe takes a leaf out of Galens book with his dance
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013Julian looks tall, I am guessing about 6'5" 196 ?
Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013
Was curious about this comment, so looked at some videos... looks like he personally posts some of his throws on youtube. Was this the different beginning stance you were referencing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8KfcjWE2Sg... or was this practice stuff? Most of the other videos of him, from last year at least, show a normal beginning stance... Also in Aussie news, noticed Steven Solomon opened outdoors for Stanford with a easy win in 46.91 this weekend at the Stanford-Cal meet. Re: Australian Results, News and Views - 2013A few more Aussies competed in US over weekend:
Todd Wakefield (Washington State) 3:44.88 Kane Grimster (Auburn) 3:49.27 Liam Adams 13:31.21 PR Kevin Batt (Adams State) 13:44.44 PR Matt Johnsen (Lamar) 30:00.14
