....plays a major role in world class track and field, we rarely see the multi faceted sprinters on the world stage, everyone is now a specialist. There are no Herb McKenleys,Henry Carrs,Tommie Smiths or Larry Blacks anymore.

I know I know there is Kelly Willie at LSU and Ja'Warren Hooker formerly of Washington but Hooker has yet to really make an impact and of course Willie is still in school.

Where have all the Warren Edmonsons,Roy Martins and Henry Thomass gone?

Anyone remember Lamont King from ASU or Carl McCullough also from ASU both could long jump and run both the 100 and the 200 and the relays.

Now few guys will even run the 100/200......bummer!

The increasing specialization of the sport has been going on ever since it began, money having nothing to do with it.

I disagree......

If I'm a world class athlete and plan on staying in the business for a few years I need to manage my energy. As a "pro" I must make "business" decisions because I'm an independant contractor. As a mere clubber where track is just something I enjoy I can run anything I want because it's a challenge, there is no worrying about the financial aspect of it. It's all about my personel enjoyment.

Barbara Farrell Edmonson has not been at USC since 1999. From there she went to CSUDH (where the Home Depot Track is) and is now the head coach at UNLV (having taken over for Karen Dennis).

Just an FYI.
