In future, gh can put in place a measure where the first two or three of a poster's posts have to be approved by the moderators....

That is an efficient way of weeding out the spammers.

Maybe close the forum to new users for a while? I think that would help. The spam is making it hard to find the real threads.

What happens if you put a wait period before they can post anything: 24 hours, 8 hours, 1 hour, maybe even 30 minutes might work.

I remember when I joined and had to wait for days before I could start posting. I even had time to join our buddy league in IAAF's Osaka prediction contest and talk with people in the team discussion area IAAF provided before I was finally approved for posting here
