Cain finished 3rd in 9:38.68 at the NB Boston indoor meet. That obliterated the indoor and outdoor HS 2 mile record. Is there any way she is not HS athlete of the year, simply based off of her indoor performances?

So you're saying size matters--?

Last year she was competing with high school girls who finished fourth at the Olympic Trials. Cain is good, but there is an unrealistic nature to this whole thing which seems to be claiming she is world class. At her age, both Decker and Heald were world class, and they were beating some of the best in the entire world.

One thing (among many, I'm sure!) has changed since the 70's and 80's in women's (and men's!!) track, whether indoor or outdoor!

In just 3 words......

The African Revolution!!

There is no way you can compare what happened in the 70's and 80's with where things are today!!

Yeah....I tend to agree with this moreso than an 8:45. There are much faster US women over the mile/1500m who have only barely gotten to the 8:45 mark.

Right on. Her run today converts to 8:55+

I know this is meat for another grinder....so to speak ( :D )....but I HATE conversions...whether they're for Cain or anyone else, male or female!

Conversions are ESTIMATES...GUESSES!!

They may be learned estimates.
Scholarly estimates.
Estimates by renowned experts.
But they are still just ESTIMATES....GUESSES!!!

Tonight, Mary Cain was OFFICIALLY timed at the 3000 meter mark, enroute to her two mile.
She ran 9:07.53 there.
There is NO NEED to estimate her time!!
Or convert her time!!

While I firmly believe she COULD have run 3K in 8:55 tonight (actually, much faster!!), she did NOT!!

Exactly and a good estimate is that she would have likely run something around 8:55....maybe 8:56, maybe 8:54 or maybe 8:53. But, within the context that the quote was taken from, it is extremely unlikely she would have run 8:45 which is what someone said they thought she could or would run.

So...see that...we agree. An estimate.

Serious question - is there an ignore poster function, as on other websites?

In your user control panel there is a "friend/foe" tab. Under manage foes you can list users you wish to have ignored. I don't know whether it works or not but once you enter my user name if you can't see my posts you'll know it works! :D

Since I already answered it, may I assume I'm on your ignore list? :D
