I don't worry as much about Mance not competing - even this year; a resisting arrest charge and providing a fake ID for a college student is probably a misdemeanor. Newbold on the other hand better get a real good lawyer.

If Mance resisted arrest without any type of violence toward an officer it's a misdemeanor in Florida, but if he resisted arrest with any type of violence on his part, then the charge would be a class 3 felony.

Resisting without violence. He'll still plead out.

Additional info:

"Police say that when one of the officers mentioned a gun, a suspect --now identified as FSU sprinter Stephen Newbold-- ran away.

Officers say other suspect, sprinter Ronell Joshua Mance, also resisted the efforts by "tensing his body" and refusing to turn in the proper direction so police could search for a weapon. Police say they told him to stop, but he refused. As a result, he was arrested. Police searched him during the arrest and found Newbold's ID card with the date altered.

A police dog was able to track Newbold. When he was arrested, he told police that Mance used his ID card to get into The Moon, a local bar and nightclub.

One witness says that she saw Newbold shooting a gun. Shell casings were also found in the area where witnesses say the shooting happened. However, police are not releasing whether or not the weapon involved in the shooting was ever located."

That sounds like Mance will have a very unpleasant hearing with the immigration people.

He said he was with two other men named in the probable cause report on the third floor of the Campus Walk Apartments waiting for another friend to let them into his apartment when they heard two gunshots below. Mance said they immediately went downstairs to hear what the commotion was all about.

Whether true or not, I find this kind of weird. I hear a gunshot, I'm not running towards it.

Josh Mance is from Chino. It's not like he's from Compton or Watts.

I kind of figured the "life experiences" theory would be put out there but Mance and I probably didn't have all that much of a different upbringing than I although I am white but, then again, I've lived in Florida for 20 years.

I just find it strange that when shots are fired ANYONE other than a peace officer would run towards them.

Ironically, Mance could have been part of a kick-ass 4x4 had he stayed with the Trojans; apparently the NCAA has granted another year of eligibility for Bryshon Nellum.

With charges dropped by the state...
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/blogs/chopping-block/os-cb-florida-state-fsu-josh-mance-olympian-20130409,0,6824199.post
... does anyone know if he will be competing for FSU this season? He ran an "unattached" 45.43 American leader this past weekend at the Seminole Invite, and is listed in the ACC 400 heats (heat 3, but so is Newbold in heat 1), but not sure if I should read anything into that?

4/17 FSU's website news stated for the ACC's they would be without Bracy and Newbold (injuries?), but no mention of Mance in the article.

Seems that he's not cleared to compete for FSU yet. Today Tony McQuay asked him on twitter (a source I usually don't like to quote but I did it here for informational purposes) if he'd be running at Penn, and Josh's answer was:

"idknow ... If I'm cleared then I will for FSU if not I need to hop on unattached"

McQuay then tweeted that he was running for the USA team at Penn but didn't know who else was on the squad but he knew who should be, and Mance replied that he'd try to get on the USA team then too.

Whether or not he'll run at Oxy on the west coast this weekend, I don't know, but the fact that he's entered suggests he may not be with the FSU program the rest of this season. He'll head in to this meet with his 2013 US#3 45.43, going against J. Hughes (who split 44.9 at Penn), along with Greg Nixon...

Might FSU be losing 3 very good college sprinters... Mance, Bracy and Newbold?

Yes FSU without ALL 3 moving forward. Word is sprint coach Ken Harnden is off to alma mater Clemson at end of season. Pretty reliable source on all this.

Mance looked very good at Oxy today and I expect he will be a force at US Nationals again.

I expect really good things from Josh this year. 21 years of age, only 0.25 seconds off his PR in early May, US #1 time after today, and after his recent controversy... yes, there should be more to come. Was J. Hughes in the Oxy race? - I was wondering if he was pressed at all.

Would love to know who the "pretty reliable " source is, especially as he never went to Clemson (UNC, turned Pro early, graduated from FSU).

Keisha Baker's 51.15 looked pretty good too. In that race Demus got out very well, but Baker rolled her up through the back straight and systematically pulled away all the way to the finish.

My brain fart on the alma mater, knew that, still I hear Harnden is going to Clemson. This source is an athlete close to the program. Could they be wrong? Sure. With the success Harnden has had at FSU I would see this as a positive step up and a big increase in salary that all who know him would be happy for him to receive.

He is not going to Clemson, that is a guarantee, did not even apply for the open job.

He is turning pro, done with FSU. Kit may have been borrowed though not smart if he hasn't signed a deal yet as it would limit his negotiations with various companies.
