I get that, but hasn't everything 'to do', been done by the time it leaves your hand, and you've left the ground? I used to watch Wilkins throw, and there was so much energy in his release, he couldn't possibly stop himself, even if he wanted. It's the same in the Glide Shot Put. How does one NOT reverse after a huge release?

Excactly. Explosive force in the legs causes many of them to loose contact before the release. Not Riedel but Wilkins, Powell, Wolfgang Schmidt, Gerd Kanter and Alekna (from the Baltics) all did.

Riedel threw fixed-feet, the rest actively reversed.

That's why I mentioned him as the exception to the others.

Politics. Happy to be in shot even though she has only practice twice since world university games.

aka: only 1 American allowed in to a field of 8, so they went for the national champ/NR holder.

to clarify, that's not any kind of "insider knowledge"; just my reading of how this kind of thing typically plays out.

one difference about the hammer in this meet is that it's part of the IAAF Hammer Challenge.

Gh.

Yes. Jeneva needs one more meet to finish in the top 5 or 6. She is ready right now to throw far. Also one more B level meet over 73.70 would put her 5th or 6th on world rankings. We were removed from bejinj hammer at last moment, and lost that meet. Also prefontaine really hurt they should take more americans like every other hosting country does. She has rieti to get it done.

Does being excluded from a meet factor into the T&F News rankings?
As in, cut McCall some slack since she was not allowed to compete?

Jeneva has 1 more meet to get it done , that's all we need. She has thrown 73.75, 70.47, 72.65, 74.77, 70.94 in europe. They wont be able to keep her out forever. She will knock down those brick walls.

The obvious answer seems to be: zero effect + or -.
She could have done very well or bombed.
