I cried for about 15 minutes That's all
Re: Last night I met ....mump -- What was the occasion to meet her? Did you get to talk with her much...you know, amidst the tears?
Re: Last night I met ....I've been at the IAAF Gala in Barcelona, i met her at the welcome dinner and then again at the Hall of Fame induction.
She has multiple sclerosis now and has been in a wheelchair for 30 years, she was a delight to talk to and said that this weekend has been the greatest honour of her life. I said meeting her was the same for me This weekend has been rather surreal
Re: Last night I met ....Cool, the only athlete to win gold medals at all three sprints!
Re: Last night I met ....Speaking of "afflicted" athletes, was pleasure to talk to John Walker for the first time in 9 years. These things come and go, of course, but his Parkinson's seemed much more under control this time around. He remains one of the sport's great gentlemen.
Re: Last night I met ....I was fortunate to meet Bett Cuthbert pre wheel chair. She was visiting my state, and she also was the inspiration at a gathering in Melbourne in 1977.
Such a lovely person. And unbelievable athlete. At that stage in my career I was fortunate to be around a lot of great athletes, but Betty Cuthbert was a fantastic and caring person, as well as a ferocious competitor.
Re: Last night I met ....I was thrilled to ride on a ferry in the Sydney Harbor that was named the Betty Cuthbert. (On a related note, I also flew on a BWI plane out of Trinidad that was the Hasely Crawford!)
