Just in the past year, we've seen the emergence of THREE American women in the distances, especially the 10K, track or road!!
They are:
Natosha Rogers
She ran her 1st 10K early in 2012, around 34:18.
She had only a 16:25 5K as distance "credentials" from 2011.
In her 2nd 10K, she improved by about 1 minute.
Then came the NCAA Championships!!
She WON, in 32:41. (Her 3rd 10K ever!!)
Then, in the Trials, she ran 31:59, but didn't get the needed Q time!!
Cayla Hatton
A high schooler just graduated, Cayla had run a 10K in 37 minutes and change.
Then, in a mixed race with collegiate guys, she stayed with the leaders for half the race, then fell back a bit (but held a steady pace!!), running the 2nd fastest HS 10K EVER...33:17!!!
(She later ran the 2nd best HS 5K, time of 15:50!!)
Chelsea Reilly
She'd finished 8th or so in the NCAA 5K this year.
She was a "good" runner, but certainly NOT amongst the elite!!
Now, in her FIRST-EVER 10K, she WON the Tuft's Women's 10K Road Championship, time of 32:40!!
In their 4th, 2nd, and 1st 10K's, we have three women to be excited about!!!
