Abdi, Webb, Solinsky in USA 10 Mile!

Not surprising that Mo Trafeh (46:56) and Janet Cherebon-Bawcom (53:43) won the USA 10 mile championship in Minneapolis today!!
But here's 3 US men who DID surprise me....just by BEING there!!!

Abdi Abdirahman.....ran 48:12 in 14th place.
Alan Webb....ran 49:23 in 28th place.
Chris Solinsky...ran 51:05 in 36th place!!

I'm assuming Abdi's preparing for the NYC marathon, so this was just a somewhat speedy fitness test.
Was this Webb's longest-ever race??
Is HE gonna move UP in distance??
And was this Solinsky's FIRST race of his "comeback" from injury??
If so, that might explain his slow time!!

Also, wasn't Alicia Shay (Ryan's widow) supposed to run this race??
Didn't see her in the results!!

Alicia Shay 22nd 1:01:15

As far as I can tell, that is Webb's longest race (so far :) ).

Solinsky ran Falmouth -- 35:44 (30th place).

One surprise is the Trefah negative split by almost a minute -- I think of him as going out (too) hard from the gun.

I think Solinsky was using the occasion to visit the Midwest/home (Stevens Point) - I wonder if he will show up her Friday for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational XC race -- they have about 49(W) and 45(M) last I heard. The men's race may be the biggest single high-level race of the year and maybe much longer than that with about 25 of the ranked or 'receiving votes' teams, six in the top ten.

Hearsay of course but allegedly, from what Alan Webb's wife posted on Facebook, he had breathing problems from the cold and stopped and walked for about a minute in the last 2 miles before finishing. Supposedly split 38:19 at 8 mile marker before then.

Ah yes, Letsrun's Whipping Boy of the Millennium. I still hold out a glimmer of hope for a return to form. Even if he never regains form, he gave us a helluva ride, didn't he?

I still believe there is some highlights left in his career as well, though we must temper the expectations. I don't think they will be in the 1500 but perhaps 5000 or maybe 10000. Coach is critical for him and one who can convince him not to overwork.
