Re: 13 Year Old Rips 33:50 10KIt will be even more impressive if he is still running in 5 years.
Re: 13 Year Old Rips 33:50 10KI can agree with that. The young brilliance often fades from burnout and/or injury.
There was a runner from my high school, a year older than me, that had national age group marathon records of like 11, 12, 13 years old. He in Sports Illustrated with those pictures of child prodigies. Amazing talent. In high school he was a very good runner but never had the motivation any longer to become the best, occasionally showing flashes of brilliance, when motivated, but usually preferring other things, thing he had not done while running so much as a youth.

lydia cheromei won world junior xc at age 13 in 1991, and this year 2012 ran 2:21.30 for the marathon. meseret defar in 2000 at age 16 ran 15:08 for the 5000 a world age best and now at age 28 won the gold at 5000 in the olympics. t. dibaba, w. kidane, h. geb were all good at very young ages and are still going strong. with this kid, the important thing is gradual progression in workload, and try to have him around people who look for ways for him to succeed, and keep everyone who says because you are hood at a young age means you wont ever be good away. the way galen rupp has been brought along by salazar should serve as a blue print for this kid.
