Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingA short film she did at the University of Arizona:

Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingShe blew the crowd away the first day of the Pac-12 in Eugene in May.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingShe has stated that her future is in the entertainment industry, which I have heard is one of the hardest industries to get into. If anything that short film may get her in the door. Fortunately for her, she'll probably be competing in Rio and maybe even 2020 unless she becomes huge in the entertainment industry (which seems unlikely, but who knows).
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingLast year at NCAA's I ran into her and fellow Wildcat and mentor Tanya Hughes at a restaurant on the night she won the high jump title. We ended up sitting at the bar together since all the tables were taken and I had a pretty good conversation with the two of them. Hughes, you may recall, was also an NCAA high jump champion in the early 90's, and she also loved being in front of cameras and holding microphones as much as Barrett does, if not moreso. These videos bring to mind the Yogi Berra quote, "It's deja vu all over again".
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
What a HIGH-ly ( She has acting and singing talents up the gazoo, she's absolutely beautiful...and she's a pretty damn good high jumper as well!!! But if she wanted to, she could probably balance training 4 more years with acting and singing. Why not??
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
Just imagine if she heads into Rio as a rising star in track and field and the entertainment industry. Think about the headlines if she wins gold in Rio. As an entertainer, she can go one of two ways as both a singer and actor.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
With her non-track talents, she could be a bigger start than Allyson, Sanya and Lolo, if she continues to perform on the track
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingReality check: Until she gets some serious training and devotes herself more fully to acting, she won't have an edge on those who are taking acting lessons full-time and regularly go on auditions and live in the Hollywood pipeline. She'd have to become really, really famous -- and high jumping won't get her there -- in another glamorous profession in order to get nudged to the head of the line.
But I do like her ambitions, though.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
The video from the D-Backs game made it hard to appreciate her voice. Much better audio found here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=E6ueZr_n294&feature=endscreen (and gotta love the venue!) .
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingAt least Brigetta has a plan for when she no longer is able to compete in track and field. She's one of a few right now who has a plan after track and field.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingActually, Gdawg, I'd be willing to bet many athletes do have a plan for their post-track career; those plans just aren't as visible as Barrett's. I mean, it would be financial suicide not to, since the vast majority of athletes don't make enough money to retire on.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
I agree with you. I'm pretty sure even the people at the top end of the sport (eg. Sanya, Allyson) have made plans for life after track.
Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singing
Most likely. It's not like the NFL where many former players have no clue what their post NFL plans are going to be.

Re: Brigetta Barrett does a little acting and singingI really like Brigetta Barrett. The Olympics was the first I've really seen of her, from that "debate" she and the other high jumpers had in the heats, her personality comes out as strong but sweet, confident and humble. I read-up a bit on her. She comes from a really poor humble background, her dad died young, her mother struggled and moved constantly. But by all accounts she really grasped any half chance life threw at her and succeed, including ringing a cousin she never met and asking to live with her so she could move to University and excell at the high jump. I believe also that her mother has cancer and the family spent every penny they could cobble together so she could watch her daughter win an Olympic medal despite not being tipped for one before. A lot of her tale is told here:
http://olympicsblog.dallasnews.com/2012 ... oach.html/ Also her post Silver win interview at 2:33: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSbGaW5zg7E She references her poverty and alludes to the struggles and well as how special it was that her mum was there at all and to hug her afterwards. She's a genuinely here against the odds really. I hope she wins gold at Rio
