Decastar sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)The Decastar meet this season is going to be very interesting with Doucoure and Spotokova on the start lists. Both of these athletes have competed in the multievents as juniors so it will be interesting to see how they fair against the other athletes.
Doucoure's PB is 7794 from 2001 Spotokova's PB is 5873 from 2000 (and she has a 6749 decathlon PB) Spotokova's JT PB back in 2000 was just 54.15, so if she throws mid 60's she will get many more points (she could pick up well over 1100 points here, which is 62.30) She has thrown the SP as recently as 2008 where she threw 14.47. She was under 14 back in 2000. So, depending on the 100h, 200m and LJ, she should challenge her PB and may even go over 6000 points. (14sec/1.70/14m/26.60/5.60/62.30/2:22 equates to 5998) The event sees a replay of London 2012 in the women's event with everyone there except Ennis. Dobrynska will be going for some redemption here, as will Skujyte, while Chernova and Yosypenko will want to pip Schwarzkopf after she denied thhem in London. The men's side is more sparse But it will be Cuba vs The Low Countries Notable entrants: Decathlon - Garcia, Kasyanov, Sintnicolaas, Suarez, Van Alpen Heptathlon - Chernova, Dobrunska, Schwarzkopf, Skujyte, Yosypenko, Zelinka, Savitskaya, Melnychenko
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)This is interesting.
I think it's safe to say the Hep/Jav WR will be obliterated.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)I love that they're doing this
Why not have a bit of fun at the end of the year
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Ladie's marks this year are no better than Eaton's by and large. The JT, on the other hand...
I tend to think it does not really count as an event best unless the scores are around 8000 and over 6000.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
What, you're not happy with Tim Lobinger's 5.76?
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
the lastest SP from Spotakova was from 2011ETC,12.90m with very bad weather. But I doubt she will join in hep although I expect it a lot,I imagine Abakumova can do a hep just for fun because she started with hep at young age, then quit it for bad 800m. In fact,JVer are from heptathletes even more than runner, Sanderson,Spotakova, McPaul,Alafrantti P鋓vi of FIN/1990 EC winner,Eve of BAH, Robbenson ,Yuki Ebihara/62.36m NR of Japan, Crolla of NED/59.27m NR and like that. This year I saw a report from Whitebread, she said she would like to be a heptathlete if givin g her a chance to compete in oly again for she like all kinds of athletics events.Just look at her some pb from her JV time;I think she definately has much chances in hep:24.36s 200m;15.41m SP/1984 i imagine boldly she can have a series of following, 13.80-1.74-15.50-24.01-6.05-66.50-2.16.22 6697p Here are Alafrantti heps in 1981 at 17,comparing to her lifetime pb of 15.28m in SP,67.68m in JV; 3777 1 pim Tornio 15.7. 18.40 1.55 11.85 30.70 4.54 38.11 2:43.20 4025 9-19 SM Turku 26.7. 17.28/0.0 1.53 11.62 30.27/0.6 4.57/1.0 38.18 2:35.26 i also assume if Abakumova sticks to hep,she can: 13.75-1.80-17.00-24.50-6.00-63.00-2.36.00 6500p around Did you agree with me?In fact, I wonder what scores if Muller,Adams,Ostapchuk,Lysenko,MIankova,Felix and other type of athletes.so I advocate there are some funny competions like that even if not full hep or dec, like Bolt throws SP,ok?
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Nianchengyu, as ever, some good stats there.
I think your predictions for Whitbread are a little generous, if she were to do a heptathlon in the same physical shape as she was when she did the JT - she was far too bulky and muscular. However, out of all the throwers, the JT athletes are obviously the ones most suited to multievents. Karen Forkel was very athletic and I've seen her do 200m sprints indoors in training, as well as hurdles. Petra Felke did a variety of cross training - I have some marks for her over a flying 30m, over head throw, standing jump etc - so I will find these out and post them when I get the chance to go through old papers.
Talence / DecastarAnyone seen a start list? I don't expect to see many of the world's top multieventers here but I am sure there will be some.

Re: Talence / Decastaryou need to go here and drill down
http://www.decastar.info (bottom line: no, no superstars) (and no Americans)
Re: Talence / DecastarVan Alphen (8519) and Sintnicolaas (8506) and Chernova (6774) [2012 SBs] ain't chopped liver.
Plus, as far as I can tell, this really is THE final int'l meet of consequence of the post-Oly Euro season.
Re: Talence / DecastarNot being a Dec/Hept expert, I had to look this stuff up.
I'd always believed Talence and Gotzis were THE two best multis meets, outside Championship meets. But according to the all-time performances lists in the 2012 Athletics Annual, they don't fare that well. Of the top 30 performances in the Dec (through 12/31/11), only ONE comes from Talence. It's a good one, though, it being the WR Dan O'Brien put up in 1992!! Gotzis did better in the Dec, with 6 of the top 30 performances. In the Hept, it was even worse, with ZERO of the top 30 performances coming from Talence. (The best seems to be Denise Lewis's 6831 from 2000, but that's outside the top 30!!) The women had 4 of the top 30 performances at Gotzis!! Bottom line, Olympians or no Olympians, don't expect big marks at Talence this weekend.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)who is able to give a video link of the meeting ?
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
Zarnowski posts lots of stats for Deca bests over 7000 points. I don't know if there is an equivalent number for women. I remember reading a long time ago on the www, that either Reidel or Schult (?) threw around 66m in a Deca, but only scored around 6200 points, so his mark never was really counted. I have recently been unable to verify this mark.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Day 1 results, followed by OG Day 1 score, and total if Talence Day 2=OG Day 2
Kasyanov 4301 4346 8238 Van Alphen 4198 4342 8303 Helcelet 4184 DNC xxx Compaore 4160 DNC xxx Kazmirek 4147 DNC xxx Heptathlon looks like another very close competition: Skujyte 3756 3974 6381 Melnychenko 3731 3752 6371 Chernova 3699 3849 6478 Yosypenko 3697 3902 6413 Nana Djimou 3646 3832 6390 Spotakova is at 3411; she has some chance to break 6000, but will need an excellent JT (5.40 67 2:25 = 6028)
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Lilli Schwarzkopf out with Achilles tendon rupture
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Špotáková 6th with 5,880 (14.66, 1.76m, 13.42m, 25.50; 5.44m, 60.90m, 2:28.31)
I imagine 199' 10" is a new heptathlon WR for the javelin, no? Quite exceptional for someone who either hasn't competed in the heptathlon in a very long time or is competing in her very first.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
That's really impressive; to put it into perspective, that would've been just 70 points shy of the London B standard.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)
A 65m javelin throw, which is fairly pedestrian for her, would have got her another 80 points.
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)If anyone ever doubted how hard backing up for the 2nd day is in a Decath, have a look at the effort of Benjamin Compaore here:
10"77 7,87 11,24 1,98 48"69 = first day of 4160 15"72 21,98 3,42 33,92 4'44"43 = second day of 2544!! Benjamin Compaore was 6th in London in TJ (and finalist in Daegu, and WJ champ back in 2006). As far as I can tell this was his Deacth debut (at least at senior level). He clearly hurt on the second day (and it's a reminder that most of the technical stuff happens on Day 2!).
Re: Decastat sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Well, not bad for a 1st decathlon for the french. In the end, Doucoure didn't show up..
Re: Talence / DecastarThe results confirm what I posted above....that Talence is OVERrated as a source of top-level multi's marks!!
BTW, why are there TWO different threads for this meet??
Re: Talence / Decastar
Well, I don't know if anyone except you was expecting Olympic level marks to begin with.
Re: Decastar sept 15-16th (Spotokova + Doucoure!)Talence isn't over rated. In the past we have seen some great multi's here; On the mens side we have seen Dan O'Briens then WR of 8891 in 1992; Dvorak's battle with Nool in 2000, 8733 vs. 8706. On the womens Denise Lewis's national record of 6831 in 2000 and Heike Drechsler's sensational return and WL of 6741 in 1994.
In recent years we have seen less great performances, but it suffers from it's place in the calendar. Since the IAAF introduced the World Combined Events schedule some of the smaller meetings have gained in siginificance (Euro Cup for Combined Events, Desenzano del Garda etc) but you still usually get a few of the top stars and medalists attending and in this years case, the women's 2-3-4-5-6 finishers were all on the start line. But Talence is still, in my view, the next best multi behind Gotzis and the majors.
