And she moves past Volkova to become the 2nd fastest woman of all-time (Galkina has run faster twice before).

Zaripova - PB; post-championships PB; post-championships all-time best; fastest ever run in Northern Europe. Likely a few more random accolades as well.

Another runner high on that AT list is Tatyana Petrova, who finished 2nd to Volkova in Osaka and just won the bronze medal in the marathon!! Her name is now ArkhIpovoa.

2nd fastest all time, run on 17 August. :)

But more seriously...I'm sure Zaripova can get nearer to Galkina's WR, but I wonder if she can get the WR. Seven seconds is more than it might seem at first glance, but Zaripova is such an impressive hurdler and seems willing to race boldly, so perhaps she can do it. My guess is a more evenly paced race in Stockholm might have yielded a slightly faster time here. Probably would help if she had someone out there with her. I was impressed with Ghribi's strong finish, but this race was already Zaripova's by the point Ghribi started her charge.

Hard to know how to compare Zaripova & Galkina. They have similar 1500 PBs (both 4:01.xx), but Galkina has a notably better 3km (8:41 to Z's 8:54) and far superior 5km. But Galkina also has many more races at these distances on her resume, so comparisons of these two at these distances probably don't mean much.

In any case, I really enjoyed watching Zaripova's Stockholm race, and hope to see more, through the magic of online streaming. :)

Ghribi is making a career of finishing 2nd to Zaripova, ahead of the Kenyans.

Yeah, Galkina-Samitova has been around a lot longer, and finished 7th in the 2003 WC 5000, the same year she ran 9:08.33, the first of her three WR steeples. She also has a 4:20.23 mile on her resume, and a 14:33.13 5K.

Zaripova is a relative novice, running the 800 as a junior, with most of her non-steeple races being indoors. I would think she has an excellent chance at the WR next season, health permitting.
