Rupp's performance was amazing, and something I had long ago given up thought was possible.

I had him third in a contest, but when he rounded the final turn and there were still 4 guys in the medal hunt, I was just hoping and praying he could grab a bronze; to see him pass K Bekele was almost beyond comprehension. At that point I was just screaming. I love that fact that sometimes medals of any sort wind up being more exciting than gold, case in point being Centro's 3rd at the World's last year, which was surely my favorite moment of the meet.

Minor correction...Rupp passed T. Bekele. He wasn't behind Kenny in the last few laps.

My feelings exactly.

It will be very interesting to see how the tactics may now play out in the 5k. I can't see the Kenyans and Ethiopians allowing a slower tactical race play out though there are some different participants, of course.

Lagat to factor in too. It's going to be a fantastic race because they'd be crazy to sit back. And they'd be crazy to pace these guys to a fast time. So what do they do?

Some of the guys in the 5000m for Kenya and Ethiopia are a little higher on the current food chain than their entrants in the 10,000m and I'm not sure a runaway tactic is going to be necessary for the athletes from those countries.

no one wrote:kinda hate to jump on the bandwagon but I to had opportunity to compare BBC v NBC .... and NBC was indeed pathetically inferior. The BBC had much more specific information and they always do the 'play by play' vastly superior. NBC is stale and redundant in the way they report on and analyze all competitions. Their 'main' guy is woefully naive and unprepared. Well just about sez it I think. One would think NBC people with stewardship over Track & Field productions would wake up. Somebody is missing too many internal memos (?) but much more like emails from the front. Well, we have a foot in the door (er building... ah parking lot?) with GH announcing, albeit via a different venue. Big ups for both Mo and Galen - long time comin for the Ruppster. The last 2-3-4 lap were a nail biter for me. nuff

Agree. Last night they gave Ennis, and her performance, scant attention. Had it been Fountain they would have had Bob Costas interview her, and Mary Carrillo would have done a fun piece on the heptathlon. I reall had to cringe in the first half mile of the Marathon with egregious mistakes in naming landmarks. Tsk, tsk. Marble Arch indeed!

I know the US has not done so well in the 10K in the OG, but OMG, I had forgotten just how badly we've done. All-time OG 10K top ten results, plus US additions:

Andy Murray was interviewed last evening. He stated he does 400m repeats as part of his training regime at times. At his fastest he can manage a 57-second quarter. He was blown away by Farah's ability to scream that last lap following 24-consecutive ones during the final.

Considering 3 finalists and overall placings, maybe the best ever. Considering the level of competition in the world today, definitely the best ever.
