Anyone else think that Semoy Hackett looked pretty good out there?

Oh yeah, lost in the shuffle is that with Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie's failure to advance, we've seen the last of the Golden Girls :(

I somewhat get the initial round, considering the favorites win fairly easily, but when I see VCB in 9 in the 200 and McQuay in the 9 in the 400 that is ridiculous. How did Pistorus get 5 when he was second in his heat?

I know I need to read the new rule book, but go easy on me.

Pistorius ended up in 5 because he had one of the "preferred" lanes, which are 4-5-6-7, and drawn randomly within that quartet.

VCB actually needs to win her semi tho unlike in the 100m she cannot depend on being the fastest person that did not win a heat where she got a better lane . This lane draw will be pretty decisive

That's going to be hard to do. Running down Jeter from lane is going to be crazy. I don't know how she got herself in that pickle. She is going to have to run her semis like it's a final to beat Jeter and get a good lane in the finals.

I hope someone like Ahoure wins the whole thing and just keeps every quiet....

But really, watch out for SRR pulling off the double.

Yes, out of the five favorites, two are in each of the other semis, and Felix is the only one in her heat.

Another way to look at it is the others are lucky they do not have to race Felix until the finals. :D

So true.Allyson is ready for greatness.

Okay I take back what I said earlier about the Americans.

A sweep is looking possible, if not downright probable.

VCB just does not look like herself here.

Sanya has been running 22.0 for awhile, if she can hold off SAFP & the 1,2,3 happens

Lots of different ones to respond to; I picked this one. The Americans could sweep -- and I could draw an inside straight (not that difficult, but not likely). Discount SAFP at your peril; she is much more of a threat to win than VCB from what we have seen lately, although VCB is a hell of a competitor; she took it easier in her heat but as a result might have to burn matches in the semi; not a good tradeoff.

AF has to be the favorite, but I wold put SAFP next and then SRR, VCB and Jeter all have good arguments for finishing as high as second, but first seems a bit of a stretch given how good the top two have looked.

Double what? Double meat whopper with cheese? 8-) How is she going to all of a sudden beat 4 of the best 200 meters in the world, in her "secondary" event? She is no Micheal Johnson, so please stop with all of the "pulling off the double" stuff... Outside of the 400 meters, she is not "above" the other runners. Actually, please, don't stop... It is amusing... Hopefully she will medal, but win? If everyone runs at their best, and there are no mishaps, AF will prevail...

I'm worried for VCB.... This could have been her year to possibly win the women's 200m gold 3 times consecutively and make history but she chose to try and double and looks tired just like she did at the 2009 World Championships... I still love you tho but hopefully you can still pull a medal. :D

I think that she will medal. Not the gold medal, but maybe the silver. But we have to see how the semis play out. Lanes are important in this race... I think... On second thought, the lane draw may not be as important as many think.

Since MJ ran a sub 20 second 200 meters (in lane 8) to win the 1992 olympic trials, my view on lanes (especially outside lanes) have changed.

NBC showed utter disrespect and disregard to Veronica last night for not showing Veronica’s 200m last night. Veronica is the two time defending Olympic champion in the 200m and even though she came third in her heat, she was obviously jogging knowing that it was the top 3 to the next round.
I am so freaking mad now.

Yep, unfortunately, it happens from time to time. If VCB were to somehow win the 200, then NBC would be all in her face!!! "Congrats.. Please tell us, how did you run the race? What was your strategy?" 8-)

VCB low 22.3x, Jeter close behind; Soumare has to wait if 22.5x is enough.

Felix responds with the identical time as VCB's heat. Looked sooo much better (relaxed, composed, non-stressed).
