Will US women throwers make Oly finals?

Postby aaronk » Wed Aug 01, 2012 5:11 pm

I wanted to put this in the Oly Forum, but "gh" hasn't opened any but the woman's Hept yet, so.....!!

NOT including the SP, where I think both JCW and Michelle Carter WILL make the final 12, do you think any other US woman will make the Final 12 in the DT, JT, or HT??

I suppose you could include Tia Brooks in the SP.
Will SHE make the final 12??

BTW, I'm NOT talking winning, or medaling, or even making the final 3 throws (top 8 after 1st 3 rounds).
This is just about making it out of qualifying into the final 12!!

My own guess is that only JCW and Carter make it in the SP.
SBT should make it, but her AR came in a wind tunnel!!
I doubt the others will make it.

In the HT, with all the solid 250-260 throwers, I doubt even the AR holder, Jessica Cosby, will make it, let alone the other two.
But she probably has a better chance than the DT'ers and the Javelin tossers!!

As for the latter, it might take a PR toss by even Kara Patterson (let alone the other two!!) to make the final 12!!

What say you??

Can't understand why you are so dismissive of Stephanie Brown-Trafton. She has been there and done the business.

If they throw more or less as expected, Cosby and Brown Trafton should make it. A PR by Patterson most definitely would make it, but she hadn't been near it this year and then hurt a knee at the OT. Long throws, both for women and men, remain the weakest part of the US program.

My concern with Brown-Trafton is that her big throws this season have come after the pressure is off.

I met her coach in Sydney in 2010 when Steph was out here competing against Dani.

he (and I assume she) were very happy how things were going .... but their goal is the OG...

in 2008 I think she took around 6 months off and did the fulltime athlete thing..

if she has done the same this year she will be in the final and hunting top 5

discus is way open and any one of around 10 girls can win it

SBT knows how to prepare and compete ..

Cosby has also pulled out big throws in WC qualifiers, she should be okay..

the one who will have trouble again is the 2008 OG hammer champ ..
