Amazing - Jessica Ennis - athletics queen.
After Kluft there was a danger of a lull in the best event but Jess leads a fantastic cohort. So many great PBs, Schwarzkopf so good in six events apart from her favourite JT, happy for her. KJT broke her British junior record Again and 14th in an olymoic heptathlon as a junior.

It's ridiculous that it's gotten to this. I feel very sorry for Lilli.

Who really thought Tobias and Yefremova were doping till they got busted? Especially not the latter, who raced regularly outside Ukraine (or Russia) in 2011.

I can think of plenty of British athletes who flashed up as many if not more red flags than they have done (not saying they're dirty of course, I'm British myself as Jon always delighted in pointing out, but it's the truth, I am).

The final all Brits waited for and some fool isn't able to count the lanes. Botches the greatest moment of Schwarzkopf's life, hands a medal for Yosypenko which she's bound to lose again. And the Urainian team should be really embarassed to file a protest which will push the victory ceremony to the next day.
A real nadir of organisation and judging for which there's no excuse.

Edit: As for Schwarzkopf, great performance and strong 800m race she clung to Chernova till the bitter end and the sub 2:11 I thought possible. I had ten medal chances for Germany in my predictions, but the heptathletes didn't really figure. There were just too many good women for one medal and Schwarzkopf though strong this year didn't seem like the woman to push all of them aside.

I follow the heptathlon closely and Lilli's results this year have all been at PB level; she just needed to put them together in one competition. When she set that 100mh PB, it was then all about reproducing her performances she'd set this year; dont forget she has had a couple of races at 24.7 and 24.8 as well as a 6.3 LJ. I always said she could go over 6600 and I'm so glad I was right

I always thought in the mid 2000s Lilli would be the German heptathlon star, but from 2008 on she had a downswing, going out in Berlin, taking a break in 2010 and a solid comeback in 2011, but in the meantime Oeser threw a great shadow winning three medals in a row. And in the same year when Oeser has injury woes, Schwarzkopf makes a strong comeback and then knocks down the heptathlon of her life. Of course she always had it in her, but she's always self-critical and never looked like the ultimate fighter a la Oeser who fell in the 800m in Berlin but rose again and still won silver.
It's a great happy end for a career which looked pretty much finished.

I thought she had a great meet until the JT when she wasn't really in the same league as usual. It was sad that BBC didn't mention her throughout the competition as it was clear she was PB or near PB for the first five events and then in the 800. They don't use heir statistician obviously . Gutted a bit for Skujyte but at least she got an amazing PB out of this.

Great improvement but it came at a high cost. With her knee acting up again she was in severe pain today and consequently underperformed in lj and jav.
So the question remains whether she wouldn't be better off focusing on the sprints.

When the heptathletes lined up for the start of the 800, did I see correctly that one of them had a huge hammer & sickle tattooed on her leg- I mean a really BIG one?

I'm just wondering if that's a violation of the IOC rule about sponsor endorsements, which I think we heard includes tattoos.

Publicist Max Clifford was quoted by the Daily Mail suggesting that Ennis could now earn as much as £5m over the next two to three years.
