I'm surprised at Marghieva, more because her brother competed in the men's event yesterday and her sister also competes in her event!

All three are coached by their father, Soslan Marghiev, so I'd expect all 3 to be doping or none of them.

I'm not surprised, just proves what a FARCE all doping testing is!

I'm not surprised she failed a test as such, more that her brother and sister haven't too if she did.

I got your point, I thought the same. I am surprised she failed a test but that her sister and brother haven't I am not surprised ( just proves the farce). I like them btw but doping hunters are just into east at the moment (puking)

Talking about Moldova, Luchianov is coached by Mihai Cravtov (can't get the Moldovan/Romanian diacritics on my keyboard), he also coaches Cristea (former WJ 800 champ from 2006) who failed a dope test in 2010 after the Barcelona Euros. Not sure what this means...

Did anyone notice the story about Laalou published by Andreas Vojta (Austrian 1500m runner)?

Shearch for "Andreas Vojta Laalou" on google and you are getting things like this (articles and interview are in German but I think most of you would understand it or translate it by google):

You are very, very wrong. You can dope but you cannot dope with impunity. If you do not understand the substantial differences implied by that statement then you fit into the 'old saw' "if you know, you know, and if you don't know, forget it."

Are you telling me how it should be or how it is?

Why are the all-time lists in the most PED-influencable events still dominated by by marks from the 80s? Do people in the US cheat on their Income Tax; sure, but not like in Greece, and a big enough difference in degree is a difference in kind.

Didn't Dieter Baumann try the toothpaste excuse in 2000?

Actually, the circumstances of it still remain unclear. There has been evidence to believe that Baumann was indeed the victim of a manipulation. Even some renowned anti doping campaigners publically said that someone was trying to get him.

Yes if you look into his case it actually has some merit.

I don't know the exact details but after he failed the test (For nandrolone I believe) he was so adamant of his innocence and the circumstances were so peculiar that I think the authorities continued to test him as an experiment. It turned out that he failed test in the morning but passed them in the afternoon, or something like that. This is where the idea of the toothpaste being tampered with came from. I don't think it was ever supposed to be an actual excuse just a theory that was put out there which became a bit of an urban myth.

Around the same time when Mark Richardson was caught for nandrolone he got a reduced ban for helping out the IAAF with their enquiries. I think they were sure that something weird was going on with the spate of +ives that were appearing at the time. He went and did numerous tests and it was discovered that he too failed some and passed others depending on how much exercise he's done. It's thought that the nandrolone cases had something to do with a supplement that was on the face of it harmless to ingest but changed composition after vigorous exercise.

I know nothing at all about science and could have explained this all wrong so please don't start telling me all the reasons why my explanation makes no sense but I was told all of this recently by someone who was involved at the time it was something along these lines.

There were rumours that Franke (RIP) and Kallabis (or someone connected with them) spiked Baumann's toothpaste after he called them out and kicked them out of his training group (coached by his wife) because he 'knew' they were doping...(apparently Adam Goucher refused to train with Kallabis because he 'knew' too)

Don't know much of the details myself, but there are plenty of threads on Letsrun about it.

In all honesty, I think all the nandrolone positives of the time were a load of old rubbish. The authorities were aware there was something bizarre going on somewhere...

Another positive. Another Turk. This time, it's Karen Melis Mey (PB 6.93m). She was a DNS in the Olympic final and I guess we know why now.

It's so obvious what is going on in Turkey. They've bid for the Olympics and to bolster their claim think it will look good to have more world class athletes only their attempts at cheating are so crude and obvious this will undoubtedly do more harm than good to their cause.

Exactly the same thing happened in Greece at the turn of the century and look how well that turned out
