My last comment wasn't about the coin flip contest. I was refering to the real contest on T&F. I'm even missing T&F points in the coin flip contest. I guess I have too many bias to be a good T&F pronosticator.
I see your near the top of the athletioko contest. Well done, hopefully your in it for the long hall.
Marlow wrote:These contests have totally RUINED the Olympics for me. Now I'm not rooting for the athletes I want to win, I'm rooting for the athletes I picked to win! Trying to be a good Murkan, but there I was screaming at Fraser-Pryce to beat Jeter!
Even if I picked them, I can still cheer against them. I was laugh my head off on Greene (400H) even though I had him winning. serves him right for all the trash talking and pompis talk he is putting out this year. If I had any real pronosticating skills I would have saw this coming.
Yes, my heartiest congratulations to you, FF!!! I finished second to you at atletiektoto.nl this year and am thrilled to have done so - a totally unexpected result for me. Last Tuesday I was 89th or so!
I have previously participated in the T+FN contests for years, and have written a comprehensive guide to the Olympic athletics six times now - you can view it at: http://www.trackerati.com.
I posted my complete guide to all 47 events - 25 pages! I also posted the events day-by-day as the finals took place.
Also, I wrote a reflection, "A Terrific Start in London," which I think you all might enjoy. It is at http://www.trackerati.com as well.
Meanwhile, I need to go total up my medals, the way the old T+FN contest did it: total medals men total medals women total medals.
I'll post that in a day or two and hope many others will as well. In the meantime, I was up before 3:00am to watch the men's marathon and need to take a nap!
Ferdinando is amazing - 3 wins in the "contest of contests", new points record, huge gap to 2nd, 10 10-pointers this year.
@Mark: now I know who you are congrats to silver! We are 11th (out of 2197 - is that true???) in letsrun so far. I'm the other one with two wins in atletiektoto so far, this year 26th (at least better than the recent two years) Interesting how close (except f/f) it is - with only 5 points more (e.g. Bolt-Blake instead of Blake-Bolt in 200m) I could be 10th. But in 10 out of 47 events all the medalists, that's insane.
I never did well in the pick20-contests (T&FN and atletiektoto), this year 158th
Looking forward to next year and hoping the T&FN contest will be back.
Mark & Christoph, congrats to you too! Age means nothing when you love t&f... My friend R.L. Quercetani (at 90 he's elder than you) is its most striking example.
Well at least I squeeked out a top 100 finish. Congrats to those who finished in the top. Seems we have a pretty good contingent from this board.
Can't believe two of my worst events were the Men's and Women's 1500, 0 points in both
And the winner, his 3rd win.!!!! Who needs a calender as no need to guess who will win in 2017 in this contest.
~ Im happy to finish in 10th place in the Netherlands www.atletiektoto.nl contest. Congrats to winner Ferdinando Fanin for really nailing it this year. My best pick was nailing the men's hammer exactly right. Worst picks for me were the walks and men's 1500 meters.
I'm really pleased I finished eighth in http://www.atletiektoto.nl. I think it's my best ever showing in my seventh attempt and I didn't have a clue what I was doing for half of the events!
Oh - I was also 11th in Beijing so my aggregate score is still in the teens.
Nice to hear about that contest [atletiektoto.nl] Next time maybe I can participate. Do they do it for WC and OG both? I did the Letsrun contest and was tied for 11th as well. Nice to see my name on that board for once, though this is the 3rd time to play. I don't think these are easy contests. You have to be a pretty rabid fan to want to take the time to do this and those who are rabid fans are pretty knowledgeable as well.

Yes - it's been going for years and he does it for Europeans, Olympics and Worlds. I think it's the best run contest out there.
It is funny how close it can be with just micro differences affecting the outcome. If two events finish .05 or .06 different combined I think I might have won the Letsrun contest or been real close. It is great to have these events though. Unlike Marlow's comments, probably just in jest, I enjoyed rooting for the athletes picked rather than worrying about if they were from the US.
Once upon a time (2005) I won some euros. Now for those of us who have been doing this for a while, it might be interesting to plot our finishes over time. I might do mine later tonight if I get around to it. All that said I am sure f/f will kick my rear end in any compilation of that sort obviously.

OK, here's mine:
2005: 7th 2006: 114th (but that's a Euro Champs so it doesn't count ) 2007: 2nd 2008: 38th 2009: 167th 2010: I clearly learned my lesson on Euro Champs and skipped it 2011: 27th 2012: 318th
This years result is clearly a sign of my declining faculties. I may need to retire from the caper.
I also won one of the TFN comps (on the women's side) back in 2007 or 2008 and scored a 10 year subscription to the mag... which is an endless source of delight...
2006 - 29th 2007 - 28th 2008 - 11th 2009 - 61st 2010 - 13th 2011 - 49th (IIRC I was way higher until I plummeted about 30 places on the final day) 2012 - 8th
