USA and Jamaica 4x100 and 4x400 relay Pools?

Postby Rustyjaguar » Sun Jul 15, 2012 4:47 pm

Does anyone know who are in the pools for both countries in the 2 relays in London? What is the possibility of the US women running Madison, Felix, Richards-Ross , and Jeter in the 4x100? Will Jamaica attempt to run Bolt and Blake in the 4x400? Who will run with Gay and Gatlin? Bailey and Spearmon or Rodgers? Anyone in the know?

The issue here is that the m4x100 final takes place the day after the m4x400 final, which is different from the usual schedule. And because of that I'd be very surprised if any of those two were to run in the 4x400.

Yeah i was surprised by the schedule too. Would be fun to see Jamaica go to its speed athletes. They could at least win Silver, with Bolt, Blake Gonzalez, and whoever else they put in there. Would love to see Richards-Ross on that 3rd leg of the 4x100! Knight hasn't been running well and Tarmoh and Duncan are young still.

Even if Bolt and Blake ran, Bahamas seems pretty solid for silver.

US W Relay Pool - Jeneba Tarmoh (San Jose, Calf.), Bianca Knight (Austin, Texas), Lauryn Williams (Miami, Fla.), Diamond Dixon (Lawrence, Kan.), Keshia Baker (Los Angeles, Calif.)

Duncan has not been nominated for the relay pool (see br's post above showing who's included), which seems like a mistake. Sanya on the 4x100 would be nice, but unlikely to happen. The spots for Jeter, Felix, Madison seem secure. That leaves one spot for either Tarmoh or Knight, with Tarmoh having better results recently.

Are they serious? Ronell Mance? Manteo Mitchell is okay . When you have Spearmon, Rodgers, Gay, Gatlin, Bailey, and even Doc , there is no need to put inexperienced guys on the 4x100. Also, Lauryn Williams are you serious? She hasn't done anything all year long. I'm telling you all Sanya from a running start would be devastating.

The pool includes athletes that would not otherwise be included; they can run anyone who is already at the meet.

In the 4X100's, if I were the coach, I'd always lean toward collegiate runners, ones still in college or very recently graduated.
They have much more experience with baton passing than someone like SRR, for example, who runs only occasional relays.
With all the problems the US has with the short relays, collegiate runners rule!!
(Both men and women!!)

In the 4X400, the baton pass isn't as "dangerous", so you could choose anyone.

Will the US 4x100's run any races before the Olympics? I think it would be a good idea.

I know Gatlin said the men will be running in Monaco.
I would have to assume the women will be as well.

The US has two men's and two women's 4x1's entered for Monaco.
No names provided at this point. The women's race has 4 teams; the men's five.

Who does not run should be as interesting as who does.

Will we see Tyson Gay? Doubt it.

Mance, Mitchell and Wariner are apart of the 4x400 relay pool. The above list is the general relay pool, it does not distinguish between the 4x100 and 4x400. Don't worry, they have no intention of using the quarter-milers on the 4x100. I'm not sure of who is on which team, but I expect the A team to consist of a combination of Gatlin, Gay, Rodgers and Bailey, with the B team consisting of a combination of Patton, Kimmons, Spearmon, Maurice Mitchell and Isaiah Young (I think that's the name of the 3rd place 200m finisher).

Truthfully, I wish they would have brought the US Jr Team over to compete with the big boys/gals. Would've been a great experience for the youngsters.

As LadyT said, Josh Mance is in the 4x4 pool, since you probably thought the list was for the 4x1.. I'm sure you feel he IS qualified for the 4x4 pool, but just in case, he has a faster PR (44.83 run in June) than Manteo Mitchell, and beat Mitchell a few weeks later in the Trials, finishing 4th behind Merritt, McQuay, and Nellum, in 44.88, so it seems his inclusion is warranted.

Agreed. I like Josh Mance on the 4x400. He should do well.

I don't think so: I think Ashley Spencer would be the ONLY one who could compete on this level at this time. I think it would be good experience for the rest of them, but I really think they're not ready for this competition yet.

All I said was that it would be a great experience for the US Jr teams to have competed in Monaco with their senior counterparts. Although they may not be too competitive with the senior teams, with some time to practice (for the 4x1) both US Jr teams would be competitive at the senior level. If given the opportunity they would certainly challenge for a qualifying spot in a world/olympic champs final. The same goes for the 4x4 as well on both sides.

The A team for both men and women are perfect, and the best possible combination and order they can have.

By Dempsey, I assume you mean Jeff Demps.

I KNOW MANCE is a 400 runner. However, he will run maybe 1 round. The final will be Merritt , McQuay, Taylor(Angelo) , and either Nellums or a 400 Hurdler possibly. I know Batman did not make it in the hurdlers, but he has been running the 4x4 quite often in the last 2 or 3 years. Thanks for the clarification anyway. Is Gay healthy enough to run 3rd on the curve? What would be any of you folks ideal 4x100 men and women , if you had to pick from the pool? For the women id say Madison to Felix, to Sanya to Carmelita. On the men's side There are several different lineups you could go with. I like Wallace Spearmon on there more than Mike Rodgers, but they both have their own strengths. If Dix were healthy you would see him in there for sure with Tyson and Justin. Give me some feedback.

Jackson cannot run because he did not make the team and was not selected for the relay pool.

I pull this from the tyson gay article on the main page regarding the 4x1

He will test his fitness on Friday by running the third leg on an American 4x100 metres relay at the Monaco Diamond League meeting.

Young Ryan Bailey will lead off the squad with Gatlin running second and Trell Kimmons the anchor.

If Nellum were to get a dollar for every time he's called Nellums, he'd be rich by now...
