Both ran very smart races, which bodes well for London. Racing smarts counts a LOT in OG rounds racing. I can see them both in the final. I'm afraid Wheating's Hayward Magic won't transfer (not to mention his PF). If M & C make the final, their smarts can do a lot of damage there too, as C learned last year. I'm liking Uceny and Simpson for all the same reasons (plus their fearsome kicks!). I could see another medal for each gender, like last year! Ami mid-distance prowess is legit.
Last year, suffering from bilateral patello-femoral syndrome, I asked an MD--a sports medicine specialist here in Eugene-- whether DMSO would help. His response, "Well, you're not a true Oregonian until you've tried DMSO." On another note, what would happen if Wheating--due to his injury--withdraws from the team? Would Andrews take his place?

When I was in Eugene 30 years ago, DMSO seemed as ubiquitous as rain in December.

thank you for your input conor. but i have to ask if you really know anything about it.
story about "crap" DMSO.
myself, i was introduced to DMSO in eugene! as well. i bought a bottle but did not use it much. i did put some on an ankle injury and it worked. though of course the injury may have healed on its own.
still i was scared of any too good to be true type remedy.
i gave the bottle of DMSO to my dad, who was a marathon runner. my brother got in a serious motorcycle accident attended to by my father who soaked his injured shoulder and arm in DMSO. the small area dad missed with DMSO was bruised badly. the rest, magical healing. from the oregon connection i introduced my coach to dmso, and he treated a bad shin injury as well. these incidents got my attention as the results were, for me, well beyond placebo effect.
over the years i've kept a bottle (store it in glass - NEVER plastic) and almost never use it myself, except for one case where i had a very serious neck injury - which i made a full recovery from and that is where the "wheating" DMSO protocol comes from.
continued...

i reluctantly give it to people who i sympathize with and are at the end of the line with injuries and have exhausted solutions.
the results have been unbelievable. one guy had bursitis so bad he had to stop lifting (weights). i gave him DMSO, with warnings and instructions to go to his doctor, a proper MD. i was shocked to hear that the MD guided the use and treatment with DMSO, and the result was my friend was back lifting. years later i gave DMSO to a senior registered nurse with chronic neck pain and migraines (with MSM) - who was off more than a year doe to the condition. again i was again shocked to find out that she ditched her collection of pain killers and reported that she'd recovered. another case is a body builder tore a tendon, bad and used the supplement program listed to lift again, we're talking returning to lifting massive weights...
on the other hand i'll opine that i've observed some crazy use of DMSO, i've met a non MD medical practitioner that took DMSO orally in large doses, cyclists that used it routinely for sore muscles and recovery.

DMSO pure does not stink to high heaven. after use, however you will taste it, this is your personal evidence of the fact that It is a solvent, works certainly transdermally and will carry small molecules into the body.
if you want to use DMSO
*** have the process be guided by your favorite medical practitioner. *** DO NOT USE DMSO in plastic containers. people actually are using CRAP like connor said. *** USE ONLY PURE DMSO *** do not allow any foreign substance to touch the treated area period.
thought i've never seen an adverse reaction, i'd say be careful and not over use and abuse the stuff.

Probably because--as I recall it--DMSO was "invented" by the Oregon wood industry (not an easy subject to google, by the way, because the wealth of advertising snuffs out real research) as a byproduct of the kraft paper industry.
I had HS classmates who went to Oregon in the mid'60s and swore by it. I also remember a Hockey Night In Canada broadcast of the era, where in a between-periods interview the talking head jerked back and the player said (and I paraphrase, obviously): "sorry about that, eh! The DMSO makes my breath smell like clam dip or garlic."
Somehow I'd beware of a substance that seems to be largely sold as an industrial solvent in vacuum cleaner stores. The FDA has certainly done some screwed-up stuff through the years, but not licensing this doesn't seem to have been its worst move.

I work in a PT clinic, and over the years have had several patients that praised the healing benefits of DMSO. So when I got injured, I decided to give it a try. Easy to find around here. Just go to the nearest farm an feed supply store. It's used to treat farm animals. I think I paid about $6 for a 3 oz bottle (in plastic, with a roll-on applicator). 99.85% pure. Did it work? Yes, it temporarily relieve symptoms-- and quickly. But it was not a cure. I think it would be more effective for general body aches or strains than tendinitis. Tendinitis/tendinosis is very difficult to treat . . . you asking a lot from any product if you think it's going to have a major impact on those conditions. (That's why I curious about Wheating and his PF). Back to the M.D.: "I grew up on a farm, and my parents were using that stuff on me when I was 12." He said he wouldn't let children use it, but had no problems with adults using it--as long as they observe proper precautions (e.g. skin is clean).
i treated nerve damage in my neck, so severe that i lost the use of my right arm and due to the pain i could not sleep but for a few minutes at a time for several months.
only people with nerve damage can really know about the duration and intensity of that kind of pain.
my treatment was devised almost entirely from sports medicine procedures i'd encountered in the past, and is:
chiropractor special pillow hot - cold - ice magnets dmso msm glucosamine sulfate bile salts.
it took nearly a year but my recovery was nearly 100 % i.e. i could curl the same reps with both arms, however i lost the ability to beat large people at arm wrestling.
i feel very very fortunate to have overcome this. most people don't recover really.
I haven't heard dmso mentioned for years. The message that it was an effective steroid/testosterone/growth hormone delivery system arrived in the UK via American field event athletes sometime in late 1970's-early 1980's range, if my memory serves me right.
