This should be a very competitive, interestng race. And, despite his lack of experience, I think Jager will win it..he has the best speed in his mile PR plus is in excellent shape right now...sub 13:20 5,000m shape...but he needs to keep from falling in the water jump!
So, what is up with the declarations here. Only 14 are listed as declared with a bunch of guys pending. Are they going to take any more or just run a Final?

Both Jager and Cabral look like they have a lot of potential -- both young (22-23yo) and both young in the event -- Cabral ran in the 8:30s in 2010-2011, and now this year has 2 @ 8:19. Jager I think has now run exactly 4 steeples, all this year -- 8:26, 8:20, 8:30 (prelim), 8:17. Would love to see both of them get under 8:10.
Schumacher's tpyical pattern is to have his runners do a shorter race leading up to their big meet. However, in Jager's case it is not clear if they will want to do another steeple (given he has now run four and gotten faster in the three finals (despite a fall on the last water jump) final or to train for the steeple intensively (but you cannot do that too much). Alternatively, the typical preparation would be to have him do a 1500, although a hurdles-less straight 3000 would be an interesting race for him.
