From outside the top 10, interesting to see what Rebecca Alexander can do, following her great relay leg at NCAAs.

It's good to see I'm not the only paying close attention Alexander. She's been on a PR roll for the last month. If ever there was an athlete who shows too much patience in the 400, it's her. The way she closed on Regina George at SEC's and Ashley Spencer at NCAA's led me to suspect that there's still plenty of room for improvement, and her 49.5 split at NCAA's, which was her sixth race in four days, confirmed my suspicions. She's probably still finetuning her race strategy, and I suspect that Coach Shaver will have her go out a little bit harder in Eugene, so that she won't be so far behind when she hits the homestretch.

Outside of Sanya, and McCrory, the women's race is going to boil down to who wants it.Most of these athletes are running around the same times. 8-)

Not yet, probably in the semis. Today Alexander went out relatively slow, but then ran fast enough in the last 200m to easily make the top 3 in her heat.

Trotter with a great finish, Sanya looks amazing. McCorory almost ran herself out of an Olympic spot. That second 100 was crazy by her. I guess she "went for it" trying to beat Sanya. I though Dunn was going to catch her.

I though Sanya was going to run her 3rd 100 to hard because of how far McCrory went away, but she obviously is just that talented. And she looked great down the straight.

May have been the race of Trotter's life. Terrific restraint by Richards-Ross on the backstretch not to respond rashly to McCorory's surge

What a beautiful race. Looks like Sanya finally has "it", so proud of her. McCrory clearly was shook and went out too fast, glad she admitted in the interview she's still young when it comes to running this race because clearly it showed.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it offensive, and somewhat sexist, that Todd Hammond (and often Lewis Johnson) always have to mention that Sanya's married to Aaron Ross? As if she's not worthy of our attention apart from that distinction  .

Why would Fran tinker with her race pattern at the trials?!

Sanya blew by her with 100 to go; she looks great...can't wait for the 2.

Dee-Dee stepped up.

Will they still taking Hastings for the relay or is there a top 6 rule?

Any possible connection to football must be brought up. It's probably not so much sexist as just plain tiresome.

She might carry in the prelims, but the final will be Trotter to Felix to McCorory to Richards-Ross. Unless injuries intervene.

What Fran was really doing was responding to the move Sanya made out of the blocks. What she didn't realize is that Sanya's strategy is to sprint the first 50 all out and then settle in on the back.

And that's where the maturity factor comes. She (or the coaches at least) should've noted that. Anyways, luckily she made the team.

As for Sanya........if she stays in this form, could we possibly see the first sub-49 400 Olympic Final since Jose-Perec in 1996?

Good question. They can certainly use Trotter, Fran, and Debbie in the prelims.

Fran panicked...bad move. Had she stuck to her race strategy, she would have joined the sub 50 club today. She is definitely ready! Reminds us of a young Sanya has far as mastering your race strategy.

Oh yes, definitely.

And you might see something else that hasn't been done since Perec.

Pretty much the way I thought it would be. McCorory is learning. And though a mistake might've been the case here, there seems to be a better realization of the significance in the opening act of this race - beginning with last year's 4x4 final.

I trust Dunn and Baker will avail themselves of relay duty in London. With midseason starts I expect some IAAF work will sharpen their skill set.

Will Hastings remain with Woodson/Austin Camp long enough for that process to evolve? Or were the different camps/programs she's invested into since '07 similar in effect?

Why does a 31-year-old woman, DeeDee Trotter, have her face painted like a 12-year-old at the county fair?

Otherwise, congrats. Gutsy race by her.

Sup Chui

Has it been that long (2007) since she left Kersee or are you referring to somewhere else?
