Re: US Junior ChampsAldrich Bailey 45.93 in prelims.
Re: US Junior Champs
The kid consistently runs sub-46... also, anyone know what happened to prep Najee Glass?, who edged Aldrich indoor earlier this year.
Re: US Junior Champs
Apparently missed state championships with injury, probably still injured.
Re: US Junior ChampsAjee Wilson wins 800 in 2:04.86, Claudia Francis finishes 4th.
Re: US Junior Champsand Eric Futch goes 50.73 in the 400H... I believe #2 in the junior world (leader is Franz (GER) at 50.48)
Re: US Junior Champs
and Aragon, the kid from Montana that folks were talking about on another thread... looks like she gave her a run, coming in second at 2:05.06 (a 3+ second PR) and going to Barcelona.
Re: US Junior ChampsShelby Ashe - AJR - wHammer, twice breaking her own mark and by almost 10 feet...

Re: US Junior Champs
Sanders has the 2nd fastest time in prelims, Washington the 8th fastest. Probably more difficult to make the team in the 200 than in the 100 though, with more collegians in the event.
Re: US Junior ChampsMorgan Snow wins the 100h with 13.26 (-1.8). Dior Hall 2nd ahead of Trinity Wilson.
Re: US Junior Champs
Yes, the extra year does make a difference... but I really like the preps having this rare chance for international experience and it's impact on them... e.g. Aldrich Bailey seemed to have worn his Youth USA uniform every chance he had, indoors and outdoors this year.
Re: US Junior Champs
Looks like Ashe's decision to stay home and train with Mike Judge instead of following a traditional route of going to college immediately after high school was wise.
Re: US Junior ChampsFunny thing on Shelbi Vaughn she actually signed a LOI and received as scholarship to play volleyball at A&M. lol. Their track coach must be thrilled to get this girl practically 'free'
I hope she focuses on Discus cuz she could be something very special in her career. A&M probably has a good throw coach... but just wondering what are some of the best throwing colleges? SIU is one i know and maybe another Illinois school that slips my mind.
Re: US Junior ChampsThis is potentially one of the better US Junior teams.
Re: US Junior ChampsMary Cain 4:14.74 Meet record; #2 all-time HS, behind Hasay's 4:14.50 (2008). Also, on the all-time 1500/1600/mile combined list (as miles), it = 4:35.11, which is #2 (behind Hasay).
Hannah Meier's 4:18.44 also noteworthy. Cayla Hatton is having a good meet: 16:24.87 for 2nd in yesterday's 5km; 3rd today in 4:19.31. Last edited by Master Po on Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:08 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: US Junior ChampsOlivia Ekpone wins 200 in 23.18 (-0.5) ahead of Dezerea Bryant in 23.30. Shayla Sanders best HSer in 23.47.
Re: US Junior ChampsTyreek Hill wins 200 in 20.57 (+0.1) ahead of Aaron Ernest in 20.88
Re: US Junior Champs
Yes. Najee Glass strained a hamstring running the 4x1 at the Penn Relays in April, took a few weeks off, and then reinjured the same hamstring a few weeks ago in the 200m trials at the northern NJ sectionals, after successfully winning the 400 at sectionals the night before.
Re: US Junior ChampsWell it's just a matter of time now until Mary Cain obliterates Hasay's 4:14.50 1500m HSR

Re: US Junior Champs
A great team, and a great meet. Great to see Youth roomates Aldrich Bailey and Arman Hall go 1-2 in the 400, 45.37 and 45.77 respectively, great times. w/ Okezie and LSU's Downing, I wouldn't be surprised if they threaten that 3:01.09 4 x 4 relay set in Grosetto (Johnson, Merritt, Craig, Clement), w/ 2 preps in the mix. Tyreek Hill looks like the real deal also.
Re: US Junior Champs
Madu in two events after winning the TJ.
Re: US Junior Champs
You said it j-a-m... Madu delivers when it counts. A&M w/ some great recruits.
Re: US Junior ChampsKendell Williams (just a HS junior) falls just a tad short of the HS record in the Heptathlon, scoring 5,481 (PR), finishing 2nd... very impressive.
Re: US Junior ChampsCain's 4:14.74 is a Soph class record!!
(Hasay ran her time as am 11th grader!!) Kendell Williams AGAIN PR's in 2012!! Her 5481 Hept is a Jr Class (11th grade) record!! With better SP and JT and 800, she could get 6000 next year!! What happened to Cami Chapus?? She ran about 20 seconds off her PR!! With 4 HS girls under 4:20 this year, this must be BY FAR the best year for HS girls mid-distance running EVER!!
Re: US Junior Champs
Her JT was better--94 feet. Also, I don't think she has run a serious 800 yet, and when that happens, we could see 6000 (next year).
Re: US Junior ChampsMary Cain won her race and didn't benefit from being in the same race as professionals. The two performances are night and day.
Re: US Junior Champs
Yes and no, when she was in 11th grade, Hasay was really a 10th-grader age wise (she started college at 17). [Since Cain is already 16, they were the same age (year) Cain about 6 months younger than Hasay was.]
Re: US Junior ChampsCain is also just as fast, despite not being rabbited by elites.

Re: US Junior Champshttp://www.runnerspace.com/video.php?vi ... ships-2012
VIDEO OCAINS 4:14 you better get rid of her by teh last lap only thge top USA women can deqal with her lasy lap established a fast pace, 68 then 71 sits, then runs away 3rd lap peo[ple need to push but in a tactical race, WHO pushes the 3rd lap??
Re: US Junior ChampsActually, pushing the third lap IS a tactic--and a good one, as you say.
Re: US Junior ChampsCain's victory in the 1500 is interesting to watch -- it has the standard "form" of "aggressive frontrunner gets caught by about 800m" but the usual outcome -- that person going backwards through the pack -- of course didn't happen. Really interesting to watch Cain run away from everyone (again) in the last lap. First time I've ever seen her run -- impressive.
Someone asked earlier what happened to Chapus -- I don't know, but having seen the results before the video, I assumed she was never a factor in the race, so I was intrigued to see that she was in the top 3, w Cain & Hatton (I think) at the bell, but in the last 300-400m it just looked like someone pulled the plug. Also watched the 800, to see Ajee Wilson & Dani Aragon. In the "HS state meet heroics" thread, kuha noted of Aragon, "She's got great biomechanics--one of the most elegantly fluid runners I've ever seen." Having seen her for the first time in this race, I second kuha's observation. She ran well back in the first 400, and then came on very strong in the last ~300, almost caught Wilson. Also very impressive. (Of course, Wilson is, too, but I've seen her run before so she was already familiar to me.) I know that Aragon doesn't have the fast times on her prep resume as do some others, but she looks like she has a great amount of potential.
Re: US Junior Champs
I don't think we'll come close to Grosseto2004's 13 golds, but I do think the US will exceed its highest total medal count of 21 from Kingston2002. Here's a list of all US 1st/2nd place finishers that are currently in the IAAF World Junior Top 10 list... Enjoy the World Juniors. (event - name - 2012 SB - world rank as of June 18) m100 - T. Re: US Junior Champs
Dezerea Bryant won Gold with the 4x100 in 2010. She's the only defending champion on the U.S. team, I guess?
