400: Karandyuk 52.53, Titimets 52.73, Bibik 52.83, Muravyova 53.19, Baraley 53.25
400H: Yaroshchuk 55.42, Kolesnychenko 57.98
TJ: Knyazyeva 13.86/1.6

200: Korzh 20.89/0.3, Bodrov 21.00
400: Burakov 46.35, Hutsol (90) 46.52

Full results available in Ukrainian on http://flau.org.ua/calendar/2012/05/17-19/index.htm

FYI, for all results and news go to http://uaf.org.ua

An interesting result (not in Ukraine, but by a Ukrainian athlete) is a 79.42 hammer throw in Jablonec, CZE on 29 April by 45-year-old Aleksandr Dryhol whose previous best of 77.96 was set in 1990! He also has a 78.47 from the Donetsk throwing champs on 13 April, at which Sekachova threw 72.20 and Novozhylova 71.73.

Dryhol's 2012 performances are :!: to say the least. I know it's not unusual for heavy throwers to retain good form at an advanced age but to be throwing better than ever at 45-46 is a rarity!

I missed this from your post and just picked it up of the european rankings list. A very good performance that has surely secured her place for London along with Dobrynska and Yosypenko. Her hurldes would have been faster if not for the wind, and that was a great LJ from her. The JT is disappointing and I imagine she did enough in the 800m, so posisbly more to come and another top 8 contender for London.

A sensation from the first morning of the Ukrainian NCs in Yalta: Melnychenko 6.74/1.7!!!!! in the LJ Qs. An 18cm improvement on her PB from the hep NC (though that was set in a 0.0 wind).

No other impressive results from Qs (M/W 100, 110H, 100H, M DT, W HJ) though Kasyanov did 14.20/0.0 and 50.35.

I notice there's a slight age-difference between the winner of the men's and women's hammer at the Nationals. :P

Great to see Bryzhina back in form after being stuck in the mire for the past couple of seasons. That's her first sub-23 since the Europeans and their 4x100m chances are looking heightened with Povh converting her good indoor form outdoors.

What sort of team will Ukraine be sending to the Euros, Andy?

Dunno what sort of team they'll be entering (I'll post details when I know), though (a) last I read Dobrynska planned to compete and (b) they have committed to the 3 relays in which they have qualified (men's 4x4 and both women's).

(It's the first year they've implemented Olympic-style qualification for the Euro relays, which is a shame because with 3 men under 20.84 they could have an OK men's 4x1. Had it been around in 2002, the eventual champions may not have qualified! - they didn't have a 4x1 team in Edmonton '01.)

Strong team!
Dobrynska planned to compete but perhaps changed her plans after not so good performance in Goetzis. I was hoping to see Drygol in hammer team.

I guess Dryhol either turned down selection or the federation preferred to give Martynyuk a champs. I expect him to be in the London team.

What's on in London in 2014?

Maybe he'll be at the 2017 WC when he'll be 51?!

I just meant perhaps he'll go to the Euros in 2014 at 48 instead. There seem to be a few other hammer throwers who are hitting their best form at an advanced age. The former Belarussian who competes for Azerbaijan now (I think) set a NR of close to 80m recently and he's 39-40 now. Really hope Murofushi can get back up there now although he didn't throw that well at the Japanese Champs at all.
