Both 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter races will be very close as will 400 meter hurdles, all events Jamaica can win medals in. There are no surefire locks at the Olympic games, although Sally Pearson comes very close (a slip up from her like what happened in Zurich in the Diamond League last year could dramatically change the 100 meter hurdles).

Jeter is a favorite, but not a heavy favorite. It's going to be close.

Wow...I didn't think both Usain Bolt and VCB would be dethroned as national champions in the 200m....

Not necessarily....

I live in London, and the BBC are only really interested in their own athletes. The only reason Bolt vs Blake gets a mention is because of who Bolt is.

Just wondering if Bolt's latenight partying is finally catching up with him plus didn't he have an accident about a month ago. This is a guy that suffers from scoliosis, could the impact from that accident played a part in what we are now seeing plus the fact that he may not have been wearing a seatbelt...a las which hardly anyone in Jamaica adheres to...food for thought

Believe me, they will push Shelly and Jessica Ennis as well. Shelly already has a pair of endorsement deals lined up with British companies..

Well, with two track clubs competing (and everyone else unattached), it was only a matter of time...

As an aside, some of those unattached used to be 'attached'....

What's happening there?

Even if that is true, that's utter nonsense that the BBC will "push" her for that reason- the BBC actually has a duty to be entirely impartial with regards to "promoting", it's a very big thing over here

It was clear that at the start of this season VCB had a dilemma; go for the one thing that is missing in her medal cabinet, the Olympic 100m gold, making her the only woman in history to have won world & Olympic golds at 100 & 200, or make a different history & get her third Olympic 200m gold, a feat never done before.

I think that at her age, with the talent that is around who tend to specialise (SAFP, Jeter, Felix..) she had to focus on one event more so, but it seems she is still inbetween events.

Common sense dictates she should have focussed on the 200m; thus far the only other sub 22 rival is Felix, whereas in the 100m there are 3 women with faster PRs; SAFP, Jeter & Stewart.

In some ways I think vanity has meant she thinks she can win that 100m gold, but she just doesnt have the start or sparkling first 30m that she needs. She was closing down SAFP at the Jamaican trials in the 100m, but she just gave too much away at the start.
As for the 200m, I've not seen the race yet, but if she did slightly give up, then maybe she could have gained another 10th or so. A 22.2 at this stage of the season is fine, it shows she can get down to 22.0 come London, but the problem is 22.0 wont get her gold. She needed 22.0 or better here, to show she can get down to her very best, which she will need to be to battle Felix.

I fear that, unless she can hit her start, she will come away with 2 silvers at best. Still a great achievement, but she is capable of so much more.

*claps* I totally agree.... Its either one even or the other for major championships. Doubles are rare but can be done.

Is it me or do I think she is Focussing more on the 100m .I mean I think that is the one she wants most but she still feels like she is Obligated to run the 200m .But if all things being equal Veronica will get 2 medals in London in the 100m & the 200m honestly i dont know what they will be .Has she come out and said she has any problems ? My problem is her start i mean it is so bad really bad

How come the stadium was so empty ?

Bolt vs Blake was one of the most anticipated races of the past two years yet from the pictures I see, the stadium was not even half full

VCB's start, bend and overall technique looked solid but didn't have anything in the straight, SAFP continues to look very strong.

My fear is that with 4 weeks to go, is there the time for VCB to get her final 50m any stronger? I assume that special endurance work would be done in the off/early season?

10.82 is fast enough to beat Felix, its just if her 100m rounds take it out of her early in the programme and she doesn't have the strength to hold onto her lead off the bend.

Sherone did it so I am thinking VCB can as well (hopefully). Sherone's been starting well and fading HORRIBLY all season but somehow was able to find some serious top end yesterday and Friday.

I am guessing it was just a very stressful weekend and VCB's aim (from her comments) seem to be just to make the team in both events. Hopefully she has something special planned within the next 4 weeks.

I heard one of the commentators mention on sportsmax that Veronica and shelly don't really get along anyone know why . Has it got anything to do with 2008?

What ever it is needs to be fixed before London because we want that world record . I mean egos have to be pushed aside to get the best out of the team meaning sherone will run a straight since she is not good at curves and Veronica should run a curve .

That womens 200 meter final was just strange. Shelly actually seemed to have more endurance than Veronica in the straight(they came off the curve evenly). It wasn't even like Shelly had a sizeable lead coming off the curve and in the last 20 meters it looked like she was even pulling away.

On another note we are finally seeing the results of Sherone's 400 training. She had such superb closing in the last 50 meters of that race(as well as in the 100 meter). She should def look into competing in the 400 as well as the 200 next year. Jamaica is just too brutal and will continue to keep spitting out young top class 100 meter runners but she could take her speed to the 400 and just work on some speed/special endurance and we will have a sub 50 runner easily. Anyone who can run 51.25/51.42(in Jan) just from fall training alone could do alot of damage after speedwork is added. This olympics I wouldn't rule her out as a medalists either.

Yes. Veronica tried to have Shelly removed from the '08 Olympic 100m and replaced with herself.

Now please explain such a jaded, Nationalistically blind comment.

Btw, saying that Ms. Jeter will peak in London has nothing to do with SAFP, Madison, VCB, Felix...

Really? VCB tried to have Shelly removed in Beijing! This is ludicrous. Where was this published? Wasn't it the Jamaican ppl that create a major havoc citing VCB should run. I just need that black and white as to where she tried lmao!!!

1. I have no reason to explain a comment I did not make. Better you quote and ask the individual that made the comment in the first place.
2. You stated "Jeter will peak in London" as if it happens in a vacuum.

YES but it seems like only Athletes of that 2 club are progressing ex: k Bailey-Cole becomes a 10.0 sprinter probably the nith sub ten jamaican ..i am happy for that but let not forget D.Lee was wayyyyyyyyyy better than him till last year!!!!! my question is : Are others clubs serious on the preparation of their athletes ??? i mean Lee and O.Bailey should be the one that are running 10.0 by now!!!!!!! in 200m Weir become a sub 20 guy ...ok!!!! but what about Dwyer he won the 200m universidad last year the a personal best of 20.2x last but this year he is in regression that absurd...i bet if he was racers or mvp he will be running 19.xx by now!!!!! the list go on and on .......

is that so difference amongs racers , Mvp vs others????

I'm sure that the other clubs are just as serious about athlete preparation as MVP and Racers, but it may be a simple matter of a lack of resources that prevents them from keeping pace. I can't state definitely but I will presume that the other clubs have a difficult time garnering funding etc. A full complement of coaching staff may also be an issue.

Like all things, it will take time to build.
